Where is the wifi
My family is going to Korea for a week, I was wondering if it's easy to get wifi on the go in Korea, or would it be more convenient to get a wifi router/ SIM card data plan. I have never rented a router before, but i have heard that they provide better coverage and can be shared with the whole family. Anyone has recommendations for reasonably priced router rentals? Preferably in English (I'm from Australia) Thanks!

There is a lot of info on the tripadvisor forum about wifi eggs and yes they could be good for a number of people at a time. You need to check on the suitability for where you will be in South Korea. If you are travelling around the country then there is a model that has better coverage than the other which is suitable for Seoul and cheaper.
I guess it depends on how desperate you are to be in constant contact. We are in Korea at the moment. This time and each other trip I have not bothered with an egg but just relied on using signals when I get them. The airport has a great connection when you arrive. The hotels all seemed to have free connections although I guess some might charge. The cheap motels all over the country all have good free connections, most coffee shops also but you might need to ask for a password there. Some markets/ shopping areas have free coverage.
Outside of Seoul you might find a few more places without wifi available. I hate to say it but there are so many unlocked wifi signals around that should you inadvertently leave the wifi on while you are out walking about you will find you've the connected to all sorts of networks.
I find just using hotel/free networks etc is good enough for me as I plan a route ahead and download the maps -- that way the gps will still show our location. However if you have a number of users on the same device it would be quite economic to rent an egg. One big advantage might be that you could use Skype at any time for calls including the 1330 translation service. That I cant do without wifi.

When you arrive at Incheon airport or their other airports, there are many booths where you can get a local SIM card or rent a pocket wifi router - like KT Olleh, SK telecom etc. I rented pocket wifi from KT Olleh which allowed 3 devices to connect at the same time. It had good coverage all over Seoul. However, i feel that the airport collection and returns are quite hectic with all my luggages and tax returns. If you are from Australia, I read about a portable router from wiwander that delivers to your house, so you don't have to worry about rushing things at the airport. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for both your help! Haha i think we shouldn't push our luck hoping that we will find unlocked wifi everywhere
I didn't realise that you could rent wifi routers straight from Aussie! Will go and compare those few websites.

Yes I think with several people the egg will serve you well. There is a korean company -sorry forgotten the name for now - that you book online and they send the egg to your hotel ready for use and complete with a return prepaid envelop
So you just get the hotel you stay at on the last day to send it off. It would avoid all the hassle of doing it at the airport. They have good reviews. It was quite cheap. The bigger companies like olleh seem dearer but if you book ahead online there are good discounts Getting it when you arrive is more expensive but if ordered online it still has to be picked up and dropped off at the airport.
I'm currently sitting having a coffee in Seoul and apart from the shop's wifi there is also iptime available which has been available in most parts of the city and the town outside where I was staying this time. Its a perfectly legal connection!!

Most of the hotels at which I stayed in 2014 had free wifi. That was one of my criteria when booking, and you should be able to get reasonably reliable information about that on booking.com, but be sure to read reviews on booking and tripadvisor to be better informed.
