...greetings to all from sunny Mexico (requisite margarita in hand, of course.)

Sounds like everyone has some awesome plans in store for this great year ahead.

We, of course, have our long-in-the-works Bali/Java/Kuala Lumpur jaunt coming up in May.

Luckily (or unluckily--depending on how you look at it) we'll be crossing paths with the Bob and the Panda. The greater Indonesian population may be in store for a mass exodus once they get word.

Thanks for the thread, bookchick!

Off to Botswana in March. In December, I'm planning to go to Lyon for their annual Festival of Lights, where dozens of installations light up various buildings, churches, etc in the city center. As long as I'm going to Lyon, I'll stop off in nearby Paris and Hong Kong. NYC in spring to see The Glass Menagerie, and probably Revere Beach and the Brockton Fair as time permits.

Either 1) Istanbul/Cairo, 2) NZ/Australia, 3) Hong Kong/Thailand or 4) Nowhere. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Just kidding.

I am not an expert on airfares like some of you but I got what seemed like a good Y fare from Singapore airlines for New York, Frankfurt, Singapore, Tokyo, LA for $2k US all in (August 2010, no FF miles accrual and not their RTW fare). I could not get family agreement however. When did kids get to vote?

Going to Israel in May with a local couple who has done this at least 6 times. We will have a Jewish guide who has served in the Israeli Army. My daughter is traveling with me. We will mainly be going to sites mentioned in the Bible or associated with History. Very excited about this trip as I have not been to the Middle East before.

I enjoy Asia as many of you do,but after 3 trips I am ready to explore other parts of the world. Enjoyed a cruise on Solstice Celebrity of The Greek Isles and Turkey out of Rome in Sept. Oct. 2009.

There's no reason to ever leave Cambridge. We'll be running our new furnace at maximum capacity and pretending it's Cambodia. The hot tub will be the Phuket substitute. A stroll through the expensive houses on Brattle Street will give us an English Manor sense. Thai food at Similans. What could be better?

We will be plodding off to Bali in May with his Bobness.

Kathie Dec 31st, 2009 06:48 AM

I have no idea where we will be going in 2010. Ok, that's not totally true - we're headed to Kauai in February. But that's all that is firm right how. This will be a round number birthday year for me, so it seems like we should go someplace special (though a friend pointed out - "All the places you go are special, Kathie").

So we're in the "just thinking about it" stage. No doubt we'll throw in a few short trips, maybe a weekend in San Francisco or Vancouver, perhaps a gtg in Honolulu, but it's the big November trip we have to decide on.

We'll be running our new furnace at maximum capacity and pretending it's Cambodia :)

The HT's will be going to the Maui Hyatt in Jan for our anniversary. Then to Kauai in Feb (maybe bump into Kathie and Cheryl). The last five days of March in Tokyo on a cheap air and hotel deal we got locally and hoping this to be peak cherry blossom time in Tokyo for all those who are interested in a prediction. SF in June then either Bangkok and Japan or S. Korea and Japan for three weeks in late Nov till early Dec. Trying to squeeze in Boston in Oct but Linda is having scheduling difficulties.....

I would pay to see kuranosuke's (where are you hiding lol)2010 travel schedule ;)

Happy New Year everyone!

First trip will be in Jan. to Vietnam for two weeks and then 6 days in Tokyo and environs-first time to both! Hope to get back to Africa in 2010 also and will probably make another trip to France at some point. The travel year is still a work in progress.

dreaming Dec 31st, 2009 09:43 AM

I'm going to Tokyo & Kyoto in February and Maui in July with DH, DS and DD.

Hopefully I'll also have a 5 day trip in October with a friend - but that destination will be determined by work timing and great air fare sales!

indianapearl Dec 31st, 2009 12:08 PM

I'm in Austin at the moment. Just arrived last night from west Texas (Big Bend) where I saw Karl Rove driving his thoroughly un-American Range Rover in Marfa. Gag . . .

Leaving tomorrow for New Hampshire for a wedding, back on Jan. 4th until Jan. 23rd. Home to Indiana. Back in Austin late April to meet my new granddaughter. Stockholm in June. New Hampshire again over Labor Day. Somewhere in the spring to meet my best friend for a girl's weekend.

Having dinner on Jan. 16th here in Austin with bonnieheather . . . no all GTGs occur in Boston!

Bookchick: I hope you get continued positive reports at Dana-Farber!

bookchick Dec 31st, 2009 12:10 PM

my travel iti folder empty now, but trying to line up a trip to kahuku for some shrimp plate lunches. actually, was planning on west point, boulder, and lv in sep. but family wedding in kl canceled those plans.

ht, i see i've got a loooong way to go to catch up with you. lol.

thursdaysd Jan 1st, 2010 05:31 AM

Like Kathie I have no firm plans for 2010 yet - still catching up on the blog for the fall trip in 2009. But Central Asia is top of my must-see list, perhaps with a swing through Tibet and Nepal back to India. Definitely feels like I've been out of Asia too long.
