Weight loss spa/vacation??
Odd question, I know. But we want to go somehwere to loose weight, working out/hiking/eating well for 2 weeks. Funds are very limited. Japan is a first choice, but we are very open to others. Anyone know of something?? (Cheap stay, but safe, and beautiful surroundings?) All the "spas" or programs here in the U. S. are outrageously expensive. Thank you!

Does it have to be an organized program with a weight loss focus?
If not, I think you could do very well in Bali. The scenery in the mountains is beautiful, very reasonable price for accomodations and spa treatments, and plenty of places to take yoga classes, go on hikes, mountain biking etc.
Also, lots of cheap, healthy restaurants.

joslin, the only place I'd loose weight on holiday would be in the middle of the Sahara and even there I'm sure I'd find a way to take advantage of a passing caravansarie.
Having said that Bali is a great place for nuturing and nourishing the mind, spirit and body. With all the current emphasis on health/relaxation/yoga, spas and wellness centers can be found under every palm tree. Some are better than others, some obviously cost more than others, but all offer exposure to the profoundly beautiful natural environment and deeply spiritual cultural environment that is Bali.
My personal choices would be:

Danutours -- they are sincere, well organized and well connected.

The Uma Resort in Ubud. Slightly on the slick side but aesthetically impecable and also well rodganized and all encompassing. (And very good food!)
