I would love to go to India next year again. But my visa expired and I have been looking at the visa form application. It seems to be quite a difficult task in many ways.
I am wondering if the e-visa is easier to apply and obtain. I have not tried that at all. I will look into it soon.
What are the advantages of getting an e-visa instead of the 10 year visa?

Has anyone used an agency that helps with India visa applications. I do not just want to send my passport to random addresses I find on the internet. Thus hunting for someone who is reliable and trust worthy.

The Fodor friends who have traveled to India in the past few months may be able to give me some tips and advice.
I have always applied for visas myself and never had any problem, until now.

I have just completed the form for the e-visa for my husband and me which were approved (yay!). This isn't the actual visa, but an authorization email, and will get the visa when we arrive in the country. Hopefully, that process will go quickly! The e-visa is only good for 6 months from entry into the country and it's good for 2 visits only. That will work well for us as we travel to India, fly to Sri Lanka, then return to Mumbai. It's not clear to me whether the 10 year visas are still available, but if they are, then you do need to go through whatever company you choose and send off the documents, including your passport.

As I said on the other thread, it's not so difficult as tedious. But once submitted, the approval letter came quickly.

I can add that it was relatively straightforward on arrival at Indira Ghandi airport in Delhi. I presented the form, had the visa stamped into my passport, then was on my way in no more than a few minutes.

Progol-Thanks for your reply. You have made me understand it a little better.So, I do not need to send my passport anywhere in US to get the stamp on visa page. The e-visa on line application will get me a letter to be shown at Indian airport. That is pretty good to know.
You mention you got the letter in 2 days, thus you are ready to travel now. Hip Hip Horray!
I think I will follow your lead and try because when I plan my trip, it will be only for about 10 days, thus e-visa makes sense.

Sartoric--thanks for your time to reply as I know you are so busy traveling. Feel good to know that your e-visa was accepted easily at the airport. One never knows what red tapes one has to go through in India, thus I am overly concerned.

My friend went thru Mumbai a few days ago and it took 1.5 hours to get thru the airport with an e-visa. Hopefully that is an unusual experience rather than the norm.

But will try again and hopefully will succeed.
I had been trying the 10 year visa application, but gave up the idea as I found it extremely difficult. So, now feeling encouraged to try the e-visa.
