travelling with teenagers to SE Asia December/January
We are planning a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and thailand - total time is 19 days. We were thinking of going to Saigon for 3 days, Siem Riep for 4 nights, Anantara golden triangle camp for 4 nights and to a beach for a few nights (either Phu Quoc or to islands in Thailand.
My questions are:
1. Am I being too ambitious and should I just stick to two countries?
2. I understand the weather in Northern Vietnam is not ideal which is why I was only going to travel to Saigon. How is the weather in Northern thailand?
3. We love history and the children would love to see the elephant camp- they may also like to do a guided day or so bike trip.
I would love any advice you can give me!
Thanks!

IMO you should cut out one country and for the convenience I would do Thailand and Cambodia only.
Bangkok for 3 nights instead of Hanoi.
Northern Thailand (Anantara) for 4 nights.
Chiang Mai for 2 nights to visit the elephant conservation centre in Lampang.
Siem Reap for 4 nights.
Phuket area (Kao Lak, Krabi, Ko Lanta etc) for the remaining time.
The weather in Northern and Central Thailand will be the best with the low humidity and cool to cold nights.

We did a similar trip with teens at the same time of year, but we had just two weeks including travel: 3 nights BKK, 3 nights Siem Reap, 4 nights Anantara Golden Triangle (w/elephant camp), 2 nights Tokyo (had to stay there because that's how we were routed). We regretted not going to the beach; one in Thailand would have been perfect, as suggested above. Otherwise it was an ideal trip and your kids can get bragging rights and additional passport stamps by doing the Anantara's "3-country tour," which includes the border area of Burma and a Laos handicraft island. Only caveat is that the Anantara is now outrageously pricey compared to when we went. Here is my somewhat dated trip report:
