My house is on the market and I may be homeless soon, so I can't plan ahead much beyond tomorrow morning.
India anywhere is a 10, but most likely not until 2012. If this trip goes forward and is a success, please include me for a reprise -- or if it gets postponed until later -- I'd be interested. "The Love Boat" -- in which Dogster learns the meaning of his own fluidity . . . |
Marija: Right now I will call myself a 7 for Chindwin and an 8 for India. I am concerned that the Chindwin would be too similar to my recent escapade--small rural villages, etc...but I need to do some serious reading...
The Chindwin's course is SO close to Assam......hmmmm.. |
again it depends on the date, but perhaps we are at an 8 for the right situation...
we would not rule out a non-india river either... my last cruise was 3 yrs, 9 months and 9 days so the next one would have to have more lux and plenty of a/c.... |
btw, craig took us to a fantastic 1950's diner tonight which specializes in lao and thai foods... quite fun and delicious... we talked about fodors, fodorites and a possible cruise
|
I assure you we won't be going on a 3 yrs, 9 months and 9 day cruise, lux or not...
|
For me it would be Oct-Nov India 10, Burma 10, Mekong 0 and the rest 5-6 1c person
|
Oh dear. Do you think you would actually all survive? Would there be at least one of you remaining to write a trip report?? Remember Dogster's cruise experience during which he jumped ship early due to excessive "handiness" by one of the US-based southern belle type of fellow ship-mates?? All I can say is...remember the first few opening lines of The Divine Comedy: Lasciate ogni speranza, voi ch'entrate.

BC, that's highly amusing.
Bob and Andy -- any more information available about that diner for us New Englanders who are always looking for good Asian food? |
name a date
|
MaryA-the diner is in Hartford. There are lots of Yankee fans down that way and it's not safe for us Bostonians. Stick with Similans.

Gpanda,
During all four weeks in China and Indonesia, we had run across nobody we knew and and met no Americans. On our last morning in a glorious and serene outdoor setting in Bali, we settled into our chairs to await breakfast coffee and I soon thought I was hallucinating. A cap bearing the distinctive NY sat on the table next to us. Just the cap. By the time we returned from the buffet, it and its presumed bearer were gone. I reckon that is the subtlest Yankee fan I have ever encountered. Just want to warn you as you prepare for your trip to Bali that there may be provocations in Paradise. We sometimes drive through Hartford on the long haul to visit family in NJ (Mets fans). Since we have already found all the truly bad restaurants in the greater Hartford area, I would happily learn the name of that Asian diner. Bob is holding the information close though. |
He's started another thread divulging the secrets of Hartford.

its in a 1950's diner....the interior is red seats of leather like material, chrome and asian accents.... reasonable to moderate....good parking.... really nice lao people run it... |
Of course there's good parking. It' in Hartford where no one else goes. Plenty of spaces.
|
I'm in, esp if Burma or India. Let's discuss upon your arrival to my fair city. Call me when you get thirsty. 092848695...Lori

Technically, the East-West Grille is in WEST Hartford, where everyone actually does go - not Hartford. Address is 526 New Park Avenue - access is relatively easy from Interstate 84 if you are passing through.
|
Would it humanly possible to keep this thread focussed? I come back on line in glorious dowmtown Phnom Penh to find rhks meanderings have confused and obfuscated the issue. Shame on you, rhk. Discipline.
I am distraught and must go shopping. |
Anybody else interested in participating before I summarize the results for dogster?

OK one for the road - MaryW it looks like it's back to Western Australia and Margaret River. Please email me at [email protected] since I have so many questions!
Thanks. OK back to the love cruise. |
