Thanks, Hawaiian Traveler
and all who take the time to respond to queries....We have 5 months and a lot of tweaking to do before our Shanghai-Japan adventure. I can't tell you how much your input means....not just good advice, but personal thoughts. Always makes us feel "not alone" when we travel alone to Asia.
This time we will be joined by friends, who want to accompany us because we are "experienced travelers"..(that scares us to death, since we have counted on you all for all our journeys...you're who make us "experienced" ...As we finalize plans, we hope you'll all be with us.

p.s. H.T: Hana was our son's pick (it was his 36th birthday trip)...Wow! Did he nail it...expecially the nights spent there.

Your very welcome jodo! Please pick our brains anytime you have a question....it keeps the thing from rusting up, lol
btw, we just got back from Maui two hours ago on an extended weekend and had breakfast at the Hana Hotel yesterday morning on our way around the island. Such a beautiful and remote place to be. We are planning a two nighter later this year at the Hana Hotel for some R&R whenever the stress level in Honolulu gets to be too much
Aloha!

lcuy, yes we are going. I have dual reservations at the Westin Hotel & Suites in downtown LA and The SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. I am trying to accumulate needed Starwood points for our Japan trip this fall
The reservation have 24hr cancellations on them so I am scouring the net everyday for that deal, lol
We are also trying to get into the Sofitel where Bob and Co are staying but cannot get in on Hotwire for a reasonable price. Where are you staying? Email me!
