My husband and I plan to be in Thailand for about a week in March. We will be spending a few days in Bangkok, and then want to see more of the country and people. I would love to know where you have been, what you loved, and why. Recommendations will be gratefully accepted. <BR>Thanks <BR>

A week's not very long Ruth - I'd recommend you try places like Khao Yai National Park, which is a couple of hours to the North and East of Bangkok, and you can go west to Kanchanaburi - again head for the national parks to the west of the main town and the Bridge over the River Kwai, there's also Ayutthaya about an hour and a half North of Bangkok (but it depends how you go) - the ancient capital of Thailand - well worth a visit, the temples are fantastic and the sense of history very strong. Alternatively, spend just a couple of days in Bangkok and then head somewhere like Sukhothai for a few days - it's quiet, is the site of the first major capital of Thailand, is close to Si Satchanalai (another archaeological site), it is incredibly beautiful, and the towns and villages nearby are peaceful, not really over-run with tourists, etc. <BR>Be warned, March can start to get pretty hot! You'll need to take it easy if you're not used to the heat. Aim to take lots of breaks in activity - just hang out in the shade of a tree, and drink lots of cooling drinks.

We will be going to Bangkok and Koh Samui in mid March. We are in our early 40's. It will be our 20th wedding anniversary. <BR>We were in Northern Thailand in 1994. <BR>We were living in Brunei at the time and travelled to a number of places in South east Asia. In Thailand we flew to Bangkok, Chang Mai, took the bus to Chang Rah and flew into Mae Hong Son. We could not fly out of Mae Hong Son because of the fires. We took a mini bus back to Chang Mai. Dear Peter, <BR> <BR>You might have found this out by now, but Songkhran has a fixed date nowadays. Songkhran actually falls on the 13th of April but celebrations can spread from around the 11th to the 16th. There is a 3-day national holiday on either the 12, 13, 14th or the 13, 14, 15th every year. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps.
