I carry my Cannon IXUS everywhere. It's a great camera.
"Horror stories" about BKK??? Don't believe them. BKK is a wonderful place. Just don't be intimidated by the uneven sidewalks and electrical wires. The people are extremely friendly and helpful. And they are very proud of their country, culture, and King.

Oh, yes, the famous uneven sidewalks and electrical wires. While there in Dec/Jan, a Thai friend and I were walking along the street when we looked up and saw two workers working on a low-rise apartment building. Well, they were next to the big electrical wiring on the street and suddenly we heard an explosion, saw sparks, and heard a woman scream as if it were a life-death situation. We couln't cross the boulevard to see exactly what had happened. The workers looked shocked, but continued working and things quieted down. If you're tall, then you'd better watch some of the low-level wiring in Bangkok as not to walk into the maze of electrical wires. Even at my height, I had to be careful. Other than that, it's a great place and as for customs, I've never been stopped and I've been vacationing there nearly annually since the 90s. Happy Travels!
