Still seeking beach resort recs?

I have been getting some advice from my posts and others I've read..still trying to get recommendations on beach resorts in Malaysia - where on te peninsula or down in Sabah. It will be 3 of us travelling - DH, myself and our 6 yr daughter. We want a place with a pretty beach, gorgeous water and good to excellent snorkeling. We generaly would like either resorts activities or some other tour/activity available. We plan to stay 4-5 nights. Looking for nice moderate to luxurious. No roughing it. Thanks.

If you are going to Sabah to see wildlife, stay in Sabah for your beach time. There are two Shangri-La hotels in Sabah, and the one closer to Kota Kinabalu gets the best reviews.

Seconding Kathies reply.
We have visited both Shangri-Las in K.K.
Both are exceptional resorts.
However, if beach is important to you, then Rasa Ria may not fit the bill.
Although it has a beautiful beach, they do have a MAJOR problem with sand flies, and at some times of the year the sea is red-flagged because of jelly fish.
I would go for the other one.....the name of which escapes me at the moment.
Tanjung Arun ????maybe.

You're close on the name, Leigh, Tanjung Aru. I had to look it up.
