I was thinking of Gulivers on suk 7. it's a kind of high end american style sports bar. it's easy too find, and everyone knows where it is and the food is not bad..

it's very close too nana BTS station.

if ya have any other types of prefrences like live bands, dance clubs, please poste..

what date is this for?

i am using this thread to post my short report of my visit to bkk just last month. the reason for selecting this thread will become clear after reading of my exerience at the le dalat indochine.

background

as most of you know, my trip got off badly by a typhoon which necessitated travling a day later, and a change of routing, all of which was done at the very last minute using a free ticket.

in planning this trip, the one restaurant that i was determined to go to was le dalat indochine. if time permitted, i would have gone to the other well mentioned ones here on this site.

since i was meeting orgy7 on soi 5, i decided to leave an hour earlier, and go to le dalat indochince on soi 23 and make dinner reservations for the next night(wed.). i went via the skytrain, and and got off at asok station. after asking the guard for directions to soi 23, i went down to the left and go into a cab.

i told the driver i wanted to go to le dalat indochine. i repeated myself several times(my thai was bad) and got the "don't understand you" look. then i remembered bob mentioning that le dalat was across from baan kanitha. so i said baan kanitha. "ah so" he said, and we went rolling down soi 23. i was seated on the passenger side and was looking out for the restaurant. then i saw le dalat(by this time, i was confused, as i really wanted the le dalat indochine, not this sister restaurant). i told the driver to stop, and wait for me while i ran inside to make a reservation. after a few "hellos"(now 330pm), a man came out to see what was going on. i said i wanted to make a reservation for tomorrow nite, so he gave me a piece of paper and pen and i wrote my name, date, time, and number of guest for dinner. after thanking him, i dashed back to the cab and went on to soi 5 for my meeting with orgy7.

strange encounter

the next nite, i tried three times to get a cab to take me from prathunam to sukhumvit soi 23 at 6pm. no one wanted to take me there because of the traffic, so i finally got a cab to the skytrain station, and had an easy ride to asok.

there again, i got into a cab and this time, told the driver to take me to baan kanitha, and he understood right away.(my thai was getting real good).of course, i wanted to go to le dalat, but i knew he would understand bann k.

as we drove down soi 23, i was on seated on the drivers side this time, and i saw the sign for le dalat indochine, and remembered that this is the restaurant i wanted to go to, so i told the driver to stop, got out, and walked toward the restaurant. it was 630pm, and no one was in the restaurant.

as i entered, i was greeted by the manager, who i later learned was jarun bunnak. "may i help you" he said, "yes, i would like to have dinner for two" i said. "do you have reservations?" he asked. "well, sort of" i fumbled. "you see, this is the restaurant i really wanted to dine at, but i mistakenly made reservations at your sister restaurant down the street, but this is the restaurant i want to dine at"(how dumb did that sound).

"i am sorry" he said, "we are fully booked". "but" i said, "the restaurant is empty". "yes, but all the tables are reserved" he said. well, since i made a mistake, i said thank you and turned to walk towards le dalat. just then, he asked me if i was from hawaii. astonished! i turned and said "YES", "how did you know"(especially since i didn't have my don ho suck 'um up t-shirt on). he said, "i did not know you are from hawaii, but madame hoally(the owner) told me you were coming, and to arrange a special table for you". "do you know madame?" well, since i was desparate to dine at this place, i was going to reply at we were old surfing buddies at queens surf, but a tinge of guilt struck me, and i said "no, i do not know madame hoally".

well, he said, madame said you were coming, so we have a special table for you, so pls follow me. still in shock, we followed him in. as i walked past the reservation desk, i looked down at the reservation list, and sure enough, my name was on the list.
