Celphones in China

Can I used my Philippine sim and celphone to China?

teethong, if your phone operates on the GSM system (which I assume is used in the Philippines), and on the 900/1800 MHz frequency bands, you can use it in China. Check your user manual to confirm these details.

However, you will not be able to use your existing SIM, as this is tied to your local phone company's network (but see below re international roaming).

If you don't use "roaming" you will have to buy a SIM in China, with a certain amount of call credits - this should not be difficult at all. Your Chinese SIM will have its own local phone number, so you may have to advise it to family and friends back home if you expect calls from them.

An exception to this advice is that you can probably arrange with your cellphone company to provide you with international roaming. This means that you can take your phone and SIM to China and it will connect to a Chinese cellphone network as soon as you switch it on. HOWEVER, "roaming" calls are usually very expensive!
