Point of reference in Japan
Hi,
I am going on a Japan-American Grassroots Summit in June - this year the Summit is in the Noto Peninsula.
I will be spending time IN Shika = a village on the Sea of Japan - hailed as one of the great bathing spots. There are so many things that this Summit will expose me to. Following the week on the Noto Peninsula, I can go to several places - and I'm thinking about Kyoto for my additional 4days/3 nights. My quesion is: if I wanted to go to Kanagawa - to see Mt. Fuji and Yokohama, or Kagoshima where there are natural sand steam baths - how far would this be - how can I get from Kyoto to - particularly Kagoshima?
AND suggestions are welcomed - I will have 4 days/3 nights in Kyoto, Japan, Kanagawa, Kagoshima - or other small villages/towns. I am traveling as a single female.
Thank you for your assistance.

You'll be best to take the train or to fly to wherever you go. With only 3 nights, I'd limit it to Kyoto, as it isn't much time and Kyoto is well worth your time. You will be able to balance your country Noto time with a big city, Kyoto.
Don't be very hopeful about the swimming in the Sea of Japan. I haven't been to the beach in Shika, but I've been to plenty of others, and even in season (July/August) they are littered with garbage. I would hope Shika town might clean the beach before your event...but don't count on it, as clean beach season starts end of June.

The Japan-AMerican Grassroots SUmmit is a home stay program - part of the time you stay in a traditional hotel, and the other part of the trip is spent with a family. Many activities to immerse you into the culture. Very reasonable in price - website is:www.manjirosummit.org
The deadline for this year was 3/31/07
