NEPAL TREK

Hello

We are planning a trip to Nepal and want to do the Lukla, to Namche Bazaar trek. We would love to continue to the Tyangboche monastery. Could anyone that has done this tell us how strenuous the trek is? Or very steep and scary with narrow paths? Also, do you have to camp there at the monastery or is there a hotel to stay in which would have to be booked way in advance? Thanks for any help. Joanie

this is a youtube video posted by Nikao (Everest Base Camp Trek) here on Fodors.

The video is long but worth watching. A lot of your questions will be answered when you can see the trails on this video.

Joanada, do you have a copy of the Lonely Planet guide to Nepal? There is lots of info on treks there. On the multi-day treks, you stay in tea houses, no hotels on any of the routes that I know of. You'll need a guide and perhaps a porter.

Many people say that the Everest base camp trek is less scenic than say, the Annanpurna trek.

If you'd like some time in the mountains, but would prefer not to rough it quite so much, consider a few nights at the Phulbari. There are several reports here. Thursdays stayed there a couple of months ago. ANd here is dogster's story about his stay:

And here is Thursdays trip report:

It's early in this long report, as Nepal comes first.
