I feel like such a nay-sayer responding to your questions, Elainee. On my first trip to Nepal, we went out to watch the "sunrise" at Nagarkot. We got there well before the appointed time, but never saw any sun at all, the clouds were so thick. We stayed a while, hoping to see the mountains, but they never came out. SInce then, I've surveyed people who have done the trip to Nagarkot and I've not found anyone who saw the mountains from there.

Do get out into the countryside. A day trip to include Changu Narayan and Bhaktapur would be a lovely trip. You can do this as part of a trip to Nagarkot, but be forewarned, Nagarkot itself does not have much to recommend it.

You will likely see the mountains on your flight in and on your flight out. Do schedule the sight seeing flight if you can. The views from that flight are absolutely stunning.

That is why I pose the questions here. Need to know before we go. I find that the travel people in hotels do not necessarily recommend the best stuff. So Kathie...you are the best! And travel books for Nepal are mostly trek based after Kathmandu. We are hoping for the views from the flights but can't guarantee I will sit on correct side of plane on Bhutan flights. Our agent says the seats are assigned when we fly. Is that right? We will schedule the sight seeing flight and could do it any of our 4 days. Again that depends on conditions. I passed by Changu Narayan in the travel books without much notice. I will now put it on our top list. Thanks! Bhaktapur already there but will now get star.
If you can think of anything else I might have ignored, let me know. My family tends to book the trips but not research what to do when we get there.

yeah I went to Nargakot and didn't see a thing! But a public bus trip to Changu Narayan will cost about 40 NR (from ratna park) and you can walk to Nargakot from there. It is a pretty easy walk and you don't need a guide.

The view during the walk is so nice that if you miss out on the sunrise/sunset it doesn't matter.

Some more info on Changu Narayan here (http://nepaltravelblogs.com/profiles...rekking-in-the).
