Millenium Hilton ??
Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to check this place out yet. I'd love to see pictures of their "beach"! Still trying to decide between Marriott, Reflections, and a few possible others. I'm still a little concerned about how "far" away the Marriott seems. Any input?

last report i had from kathie was that the hilton was not open as of december????
the marriott is not far away from anything....it will take 12 minutes by boat to the skytrain....other hotels will take over 5 but less than 10....sheraton more because they do not have their own boat...
what is reflections??

When I left Bangkok in early December the Millenium was not yet open. They were in the process of constructing a reception area inside River City for the hotel. At that point, I would have guessed at least another month. I don't know if they have opened yet, but their opening date is much delayed from earlier announcements.

James, I wonder if they will meet this date.
Months ago, it was supposed to be open in Oct-Nov, and I'd promised to go to take a look at it when I was there.
LA, I can't remember when your trip is scheduled, but if I were you I wouldn't book it for soon after it is supposed to open!

Thanks for the info everoyone. rhkkmk, Reflections is this nifty looking place: http://www.reflections-thai.com/rooms.html They have everything we need at a decent price, so it's still in the running.

Any new news on this place. Somone on another board said it opened last week, but I haven't confirmed that anywhere. We're reserved at the Marriott for next month, but I'm still curious about this place. Looks like it has potential if it's open.

I am here in bkk and the hotel is now open....shuttle boats to Saphan Taskim pier run every half hour. They opened two weeks ago...about 30% occupancy now but expect to increase by August. Will report more when I return after 3/19

Anyone going soon, please be sure and report back as soon as you can. I'm booked at the Marriott for late April, but I'm tempted to switch to the new Hilton if it gets favorable reviews. Only problem is that I need to do it soon or I won't be able to change my reservation.

Ouch! I found a site (www.eztrip.com) that has rooms starting at $85 + tax for the time we'll be there in late April. We're paying about $125 w/tax for a riverview room at the Marriott. Bob, I know you are a Marriott diehard, so it's probably hard for you to even compare the two
I like the nice modern looks of the Hilton, but I'd hate to get there and find that they aren't really ready for customers yet.

Well, I've found what seems to be the first report on this place. This was posted by "rojaan1" on another forum:
"Well we have had two nights at the Millennium Hilton so far, and the hotel is in very soft opening as only 5 of the 30 floors are open. Let me say now the pool is fantastic - even the sunlounges are in six inches of water !!! You will see the photos when I post photos (but not till end of April !! sorry about that ) THe rooms are a normal hotel room, bathroom is all marble and not open plan, big bath, separate shower.Nice bed duvet covers and pillows. The boat to River City and the Sky train is working. You can hear some construction work during the day, but the othside of the hotel is completed - no major work here - only small stuff like steps to the boat ramp. The coffee shop looks good with a great range of food but we have not eaten there as we get comp breakfast in the ex lounge as my husband is hilton diamond honours. There are only 2 suites per floor (5 -29) and they are water front all other rooms have partial water views, some facilities are not open at this time, the main restaurant opens in two weeks, the day spa is not completed but there is a fully functional gym room off the pool. Would I stay here again ?? Probably NO as we would rather stay at the Penninsula even being Hilton Diamond members - hope this is off some help !!!!!!"

Bob,
The person who posted that is on another forum. I've posted some more questions there, so hopefully they will reply. It sounds like the two end rooms on each floor have the direct river views, but the other rooms all have kind of sideways river views based on the shape of the building. I believe the pool is on the roof, but I may be wrong.

yes based on the building shape i think that is probably true....long and thin with the rounded part facing the river...
we primarily just want to see what they have done there after 10+ years of seeing that hulking building just standing there abandoned, plus it will be the first nite of loy krathang so we think the forecourt may be a great place to watch the fireworks from...
i am sure some reports will appear in the next month or so after people stay there...

Well, more info has been posted on the "other" forum. I don't know if I'm allowed to do this, but here is a link to the thread:

(I guess I'll find out if I'm allowed to do that or not!)
