Start with the CDC information for Southeast Asia. Then meet in person with a qualified travel medicine specialist who is familiar with Southeast Asia.

We took Malaria pills for the Cambodia portion of our trip. To be honest, we wished we skipped them ( they can give you "vivid" dreams, very headachy.) We went to Cambodia during their dry season, and did not encounter any moscitos. See what the weather will be like and decide then.

We took them a couple years ago when we went to Botswana. Malaria is not to be taken lightly. There are several options and you should discuss them all with a travel medicine specialist. (We were living near Baltimore at the time and went to Johns Hopkins. )

Kirsten - if you had vivid dreams, then you took Larium which is not recommended for the western provinces of Cambodia. That being said, both Malarone and Doxycycline which are known to be effective in that area do not have the side effects you describe.
