Malaysia

I am planning on going to Malaysia in September (before Bali) and only have about 8 or 9 days. I will be in KL for a couple and want to go to two of the nicest beach resorts (authentic Malaysian and exotic - beautiful remote beaches and small fishing villages or small beach towns to see the real Malaysian people. Can anyone help.

Hi Sandy,
I'm spending three weeks in Malaysia next month. I've done a lot of research and will be visiting KL, Langkawi, Terrenganu and Redang. It appears that Terrenganu is more of want you want. We are staying at the Aryani resort. I used Mayflower Acme Tours in Malaysia to book (I already designed the itinerary). They seem very professional. Everything is on the web. Have a great trip.

Try the Tanjung Aru resort- I've been told that it is like an Aman resort at non-Aman prices. It has also been renovated in the traditional Malay architectural style which sounds like what you are looking for.

Further to Su's message, Su is right that Tanjug Aru Resort is a great resort, I have been there last year. However, it is located in Sabah of East Malaysia & you have to take a one hour flight from KL (which is located in West Malaysia)to Sabah.

Hi Sandy.
Tanjung Rhu is located in Langkawi Island - some 30 min flight from Kuala Lumpur. Previous message may mean Tanjung Rhu which is located in Sabah in the Borneo. Both are extremely nice.. highly recommended. For the nicest beach can't beat Pulau Redang and Perhentian. You can stay in Berjaya Redang or Perhentian Beach Resort. I would recommend staying at The Aryani for a gorgeous Malaysian-style resort but is on the mainland - Kuala Terengganu (30-40 mins flight from KL). From there, you can island hop to Redang and other islands nearby. You won't regret it. Peter Stuyvesant Travel here offer great discounted package to all the resorts I have mentioned earlier. I would recommend you call them either the KL or Penang office. Have fun in Malaysia.

We went to the Perhentian Islands in the Terrenganu state - very remote, very basic, very inexpensive. No roads - only boat travel from beach to beach. The best snorkeling in the world - turtles, black tip reef sharks, sea rays...you name it! Redang is nearby and also nice. Let me know if you want more info...perhantian ferry has a great web site.
