Lunch in Singapore

I have an 11 hour layover in Singapore (land at 6:30am, depart for HCMC at 5:40pm) and I'd like to go into the city for lunch and a stroll. Where would be a good place to eat, preferably a Hawker Center? I'm thinking chili crab and chicken rice. I'd like to get a Singapore Sling at Raffles before returning to the airport - touristy, I know, but at least I can cross it off my bucket list.

Insider advice would be appreciated.

Thanks to its long history as a trade crossroads, and to its current prosperity and multicultural population, Singapore offers a rich variety of dining experiences. The islanders take restaurants very seriously, both for the food itself and for competitive status symbols. Here is a lively blog to whet your appetite http://ieatishootipost.sg/ Google will turn up plenty of hawker food courts and opinions of what dishes to seek while at the other end of the budget you can spend a mint and it will be worth it. Raffles' Sling is pricey too but quite tasty and the hotel is worth a quick look-around.

I would either go to Jumbo @ Dempsey Hill OR Lau Pa sat which is a hawker centre close to china town and the financial district ( which would also work if you plan to go to Raffles.)

The Long Beach (also near Dempsey) is also a good option for trying crab dishes, especially the black pepper crab.
