Ko Yao
My wife and I are traveling in late November and are looking for somewhere nice and quiet on the beach front with plenty of snorkeling / diving and watersports. Not overly interested in nightlife as long as there is a good restraunt or two.
We stayed in Ko Lanta last year and enjoyed it. This year we want to try somewhere different and are thinking of staying at the Koyao Island Resort, as it seems to fit the bill. Has anyone stayed here before, is it worth the money (rooms start at 4750 Baht, excluding breakfast). Is there anywhere else on Ko Yao we should consider ?
Thanks,
Bill

I was embarrased to say anything, I 'should' know as I'm in BKK, the problem is there are just so many place names the same, slightly different spellings. Koh Chang is a good example, almost the popular Koh Chang is neat Trat there is another one near Ranong, and Ranong should not be confused with Rayong, which is near the first one.
Confusing or what!
There are lots of Koh Yai and I am sure several Koh Yao, I may be well off the mark here but did you mean koh 'Tao', the island famous for diving north from Samui?

I have just been tapped on the shoulder to tell me you probably mean the one in Krabi province, sorry, should have know that! Sorry we haven't been there but 'we' think it is quiet.
One place that is being 'talked about' a lot is the 'Tubkaak Resort' north from Ao nang Beach, krabi. It is mainland but has has had great reports in the local Thai press, might be worth takinga look at.

JamesA,
Thank you your reply, yes we are considering Ko Yao near Krabi, but judging from the lack of replies, it might be just a little too quite. Will check up your suggestion of 'Tubkaak Resort'.
We are traveling from Ireland and will be staying for a total of 11 nights. I know it is a bit short, but better than nothing.
We are planning 5 nights Krabi area, 2 nights homestay and 4 nights Bangkok.
Do you know anything about the Homeastay village "Plai Phongpang" in Samut Songkram province ? I have found some sites promoting it, but have not found any "impartial" opinions.
Last year we stayed in Chaing Mai at the "Happy Winter" B&B for 3 nights. It was a beautifull teak house, on the outskirts of the city with 4 guest rooms. It was wonderfull and our host could not have been better.
Would love to stay in another B&B this year, near Bangkok, but cannot find any.
Finally JamesA, I would like to thankyou for your input to this and other fourms, I have done a lot of research for this trip and your name always pops up.
Thanks,
Bill
