I am flying into Bangkok in two weeks. I have twelve full days for sight seeing. (no need to do Thailand, as I know it very well).
I want to cover Cambodia and Myanmar highlights. I know, not enough time for either. But it is what it is.

I am thinking I will split 5 days in Cambodia and 7 in Myanmar

So I like to know what is feasible in Myanmar in 7 days. We love Asia, and appreciate very much the people and certainly the struggles. So I support spending the money on local agencies.

I will probably use an agent since I am short on time. Perhaps the Santa Maria which has been recommended.

So I guess I may be doing the standard route. Just wondered Katie and others if you only had 7 days, what would you have done/skipped.

You are going to be spending a lot of time just flying from place to place as you will be backtracking a bit to do this itinerary, so I would give 3 full days to Angkor Wat and spend as much of the remaining time in Myanmar as you can. I am not a big fan of Yangon so if you can plan your trip to spend a couple of days at Bagan and 2 or 3 at Inle Lake, I think you will do well. With an early morning flight from Bangkok you can do a full day at Angkor so that will buy you some time. It is unlikely that you will be able to fly to Yangon and continue on to Bagan or Inle in the same day - plan accordingly.

I loved Angkor, spent a week and could have spent more. But I agree with Craig, do three days in Siem Reap, then fly to Burma.

Here is what I'd do:

When you fly into Bangkok on United, you get there just before midnight. Spend the night near the airport, then fly to Siem Reap first thing in the morning (day 1). Spend three days viewing the temples, then fly out the next day (day 4) When you leave Siem Reap, schedule your flight so you can take the next flight out to Yangon.

Overnight in Yangon (still day 4), and fly to HeHo for Inle Lake on day 5. (you want to split up your temple viewing) I'd spend three days there, (days 5, 6, & 7) and fly to Bagan on Day 8. We had to take a late afternoon flight, so we had a morning on the lake before our flight.

Spend Days 9, 10, 11 at Bagan. On day 12, fly Bagan to Yangon first thing in the morning and connect to a flight to Bangkok. You'll have maybe half a day in Bangkok before you have to fly out the next morning on your return to the US.

its tight....or skip one of the places and spend the bulk of your time in the other.....burma would be my choice...

Kathie, does your itinerary include Mandalay and sights?

Dana, I'd skip PP, you don't have time if you want to have any experience of Burma. The itinerary I outlined for Burma does not include Mandalay - again, no time. In our 10 days, we didn't feel we had enough time for Mandalay. Really, what one wants to see in Mandalay is all outside the city, so it's time consuming.

The other option is to make this two trips. One, all Burma, the other, Cambodia and a taste of somewhere else.
