How to plan a 5-night stop in Seoul for k-pop?

My daughter-in-law (in her 40s) is a fan of the BTS band. My two granddaughters (ages 15 and 17) like K-pop as well.

This trip will be in June/2026 or June/2027, because that is when the teens are out of school. I know very little about travelling in Korea. If we are spending 5 nights in Seoul before (or after) visiting Japan for 8 nights (we've been to Japan several times already), how should I plan our 5 nights in Seoul to experience K-pop?

I see a few familiar names here who are also very active on Fodor's Japan board. I hope you'll understand why I ask these questions below.

What is the online tourist information site for Korea that is similar to Japan-guide.com for Japan? If there is no such online site, what guidebook is best for me to start learning the basics before reading the trip reports posted here?

Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, there is nothing like japan-guide for Korea (or anywhere else). The best guidebook I found for Korea is Seoul Selection Guide’s Korea, but my trip was not restricted to Seoul and was not centered on K-pop.

I'm sure you realize that both Korea and Japan can get humid and rainy in June. If you have any latitude, earlier would be better than later. Check weatherspark.com for excellent climate data.

You might find some useful information in my trip report, though as already noted, K-pop was not a priority for me. The sections on Seoul are near the start and end of my long trip report.

Making the most of a K-pop focus is not as easy as it sounds. Although, Korea owes a ton of tourism to interest in K-Pop, finding the info can be difficult. Guidebooks, even if they are otherwise great, are useless for this.

If you want the tourist bureau site for K-Pop. here it is:

https://english.visitseoul.net/hallyu

This is from AI, but it is important to note:

Hallyu (한류), or the Korean Wave, is the global surge in popularity of South Korean culture, encompassing K-pop, K-dramas, films (like Parasite), fashion, cosmetics, and food (like kimchi), driven by its dynamic entertainment industry and cultural storytelling since the 1990s, significantly boosting South Korea's image and economy as a cultural superpower.

Key Venues & Permanent Experiences
 • HiKR Ground: A Hallyu tourism hub with K-Pop video sets (laundry, subway), DJ booths, and pop-ups for interactive fun.
 • DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza): Hosts various architecture tours and special events.
 • Hongik University Museum & Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA): Offer rotating art exhibitions.
Major Festivals & Pop-ups (Check Official Sites for 2026)
 • MyK Festa (June 2025): A big government-hosted celebration with K-pop, conferences, and culture.
 • Seoul Lantern Festival (Dec 2025-Jan 2026): Magical light displays along Cheonggyecheon Stream.
 • K-Food Festivals: Often held near Cheonggyecheon Stream on weekends.
 • Winter Glam Seoul (Dec 2025): Featured K-beauty pop-ups, makeup classes, and fan meets.
How to Find Current Events
 • Visit Seoul Official Guide: (english.visitseoul.net) for a comprehensive list.
 • Seoul Hallyu Instagram (@seoul_hallyu): For pop-up announcements.
 • Korea.net: For news on national Hallyu initiatives like the K Wave Festival.
 • South Korea Travel Facebook Groups: For user updates and event guides.

You could do your own internet search involving Hallyu in English and, especially, Korean (한류). Use the google Translate app to understand the results.. If you want to attend an event (concert, radio station, or other music promo) you might find it difficult. But I believe doing the research is a tremendously worthwhile endeavor.

I just tried this: I put into Bing Translator, Hallyu, Seoul, Events. I then searched for Hallyu, Seoul and Events using the Korean result: 한류 서울 이벤트 and I got this as the first result:

This is for a multi-day event Dec 22-24 (mentioned above by AI). It even says, "1st session for foreigners only." Which I find very interesting.

Hope this helps.

Not a fan of K Pop in the slightest but do love the city of Seoul . I asked the question of ChatGPT an it came up with the following which may be a good starting point. If you , or your DIL have more specific requirements then you can drill down further very quickly and refine an itinerary very easily.

I would strongly recommend familiarizing yourselves with the Seoul transport system before arrival as it can be very confusing at first. One tip given to me which I found invaluable was to identify via googlemaps or whatever , the subway exit to use for your particular destination.

K-Pop Attractions & Experience Spots

🌟 Interactive / themed experiences
 • K‑POP EXPERIENCE CENTER – A place focused on K-Pop exhibits and activities (often with photos, videos, hands-on displays).
 • HiKR Ground (near Cheonggyecheon / Myeongdong) – A free interactive K-Pop space where you can learn about K-Pop, see exhibits, and even star in your own K-Pop video at themed sets. Wikipedia+1
🎶 Famous fan and cultural streets
 • K‑Star Road (Gangnam) – A K-Pop landmark street lined with statues of major idol groups, shops, and agencies linked to famous artists. Klook Travel
 • K‑POP Square (near COEX, Gangnam) – A lively public space often hosting K-Pop events and perfect for photos.

🛍️ Shopping & Merch

K-Pop fans love grabbing souvenirs, albums, and merch — and Seoul has plenty of great stores:
 • Buruttrak – Very popular CD & album store in Myeongdong.
 • 케이팝프렌즈 – Big K-Pop shop with goodies and fan items.
 • Music Korea – Highly rated music store with a wide selection of K-Pop albums.
 • Myeongdong Underground Shopping and Hongdae stores also have photo cards, lightsticks, merchandise and limited editions. 💃 Live Culture & Local Spots

 • Hongdae (Hongik University area) – A neighbourhood known for street performances, busking, and K-Pop dance vibes. You’ll often find dancers covering choreography and emerging artists performing. • Dance studios – Places like 1MILLION Dance Studio and Real K-Pop Dance offer workshops where you can learn idol choreography (book in advance). 📸 Unique Fan Experiences

 • K-Pop Concept Photoshoots – Book themed photoshoots (with idol-style lighting and outfits) near areas like Itaewon or Bukchon for professional keepsakes. • Nightlife & clubs in Itaewon often play K-Pop heavy playlists — a fun way to dance to hits. Korea Wanderlust: K-Dreams Meet Reality

🎉 Events & Festivals (Seasonal)

Seoul hosts music events and festivals where you can catch K-Pop acts live:
 • Waterbomb Festival – A summer music festival featuring K-Pop, EDM and more. Wikipedia
 • Gangnam Festival (Autumn) often includes K-Pop concerts and performances around COEX. Reddit
 • Look out for concerts, fan meetings, and pop-up events (they change frequently — check schedules on local ticket sites or social media). Thanks to kja, shelemm, and catch23 for taking the time to respond.
And thanks for pointing out that AI is the way to plan for this kind of focus trip.

It's just a way to point you to the websites available to do the real planning. You get the same results through any search engine.

Used correctly , it can be so much more than that. Keep asking questions of AI and it will fine tune your requirements into a very usable itinerary in as much data as you need, way quicker than using a search engine.
