Hotel help Agra

Is the much higher price of Amarvilas worth it compared to Taj View or Jaypee Palace?
What about additional cost of Shiv Niwas vs Jagat Niwas in Udaipur?
Any opinion?

I have only stayed at Amarvilas (three times, 5 nights total) and Udaivilas (twice, six nights), so can't compare.

But, I love, no, LOVE both these hotels and consider them well worth the splurge. They are my favorite hotels anywhere.

Oberoi has specials that are often quite good. They usually have the one that gives you some great prices if you spend a certain number of total nights at different Oberois. My last trip was for 8 nights and had to include at least one night at either the Delhi or Mumbai hotel. It included yoga classes, cooking classes, and train/air transfers.

The Amarvilas is defintely worth the price. Every room DOES have a view of the Taj Mahal, and if you stay, it is a great idea to book a room with a balcony.

I know it is the most expensive place in Agra, but it is well worth the money. My wife and I still drool over our wonderful experience there.

It's worth the splurge.

no doubt this is a nice place...i have only been there for dinner...it seemed a bit like a ghost town in the public areas...

i found the sheraton to be adequate at 1/4 the price....you are never in the hotel anyways...

The Amarvilas is a very good hotel with excellent Taj views, great service, a nice pool area a good spa and good restaurants. The ability to walk to the Taj is really unique and not to be easily discounted. However, it is expesive no doubt. However, I would say that of many hotel choices in India, if you can splurge on one hotel, IMO, perhaps it should be that one, as your visit to a memorable place will be made more memorable.

That being said, I have to say that other than the Oberoi, my favourite hotel in Agra would be the Taj View. For value, location, rooms, and a good view of the Taj, the hotel is quite nice. The doubles are a good size with marble floors and nice new bathrooms with pedestal sinks. The suites were two good-size rooms with a canopy bed, flat screen TVs and a huge bath with separate shower. The Taj view rooms have excellent Taj views across the city, and only this hotel and the Oberoi have Taj views, albeit the Oberoi's are truly superb ones. The prices were about a third less than the Sheraton (rack rates), the suites cost about the same as a deluxe room at the Sheraton, which are basically motel rooms. You can walk out from the hotel to bits of Agra which is a nice change from the other hotels like the Jaypee Palace or the Sheraton. They do not have the great big lawns and gardens of the Oberoi or the Sheraton, but then you aren't paying Oberoi prices. They have a nice small lawn area at the back with a pretty pool. I preferred it to the Sheraton where I have stayed twice before, the first time in 1992, and I can attest after seeing it again about a year ago that they have not changed the furniture in the lobby nor the carpets in the hallways since then.

As for the Jaypee, I would only take if I got a Palace room which are their newest rooms. I took a tour of it and saw many of their rooms, which were IMO not nice at all, other than their Palace rooms. I would also worry about service levels here, it is a very large convention hotel. It also has a rather inconvenient location out of town and no Taj views at all. A car or rickshaw would be necessary to get to the Taj, and there are no surrounding old town areas to see like there would be at the Taj View.

I know that the Park Place hotel has received some good reviews on this board and on tripadvisor.com, see http://www.parkplaza.com/ I have not seen it. Location is OK, and I don’t believe that they have any Taj views, but it might be one to consider.

AMAR VILAS HAS NO ALTERNATE IN AGRA .COMPARING IT WITH ANY AGRA HOTEL IS LIKE COMPARING A GUEST HOUSE WITH A PALACE . BUT IT COST DEAR.

NO DON"T STAY AT SHIVNIWAS EVEN IF THEY OFFER YOU BASE CATG SUITE .NO LAKE VIEW .ONLY CORNER SUITE HAS PARTIAL VIEW . ROOMS ARE DARK & ILL BUILT .

BETTER FATEH PRAKASH BUT ASK FOR DOVE COTE ROOM AS THESE ROOMS GIVE YOU LAKE VIEW .

YES SHIVNIWAS BASE CATG ROOM IS CHEPAER TO FPP { Dove cote Rm }

THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN UDAIPUR LOCATION WISE IS AMET HAVELI .THEY DON"T HAVE WEBSITE BUT ITS HAS THE BEST LOCATION JUST ON LAKE .ROOMS ARE CHARMING AND THE OWNER DHEER SINGH IS A PROFESSIONAL BUT DON"T EXPECT LUXURY HERE
