Would like guide to meet us at the Cruise Terminal and take us to Miajima by ferry: understand there is a train to ferry station but will need help since we do not speak Japanese. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is this why you think you need a guide? If so, that's not an issue. We have been to Japan twice, don't speak a word of the language other than "arigato" and can't read a stitch. We've navigated everything perfectly. Japan's second language is English and the Japanese are helpful. There are plenty of resources to assist you, not least of which is the Japan Guide website, which has this instruction: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3454.html. Note that "There are also boats connecting Miyajima and Hiroshima Port (25 minutes, 1850 yen one way, 6-8 round trips per day)" -- this indicates you DO NOT NEED to go from the cruise terminal to a train to another boat, instead you can just get a ferry from the port.

This information took me 5 minutes to find. Spend some time on research and you'll find what you need for Japan.

Thanks for the response. We have also been to Japan in the past (Nagasaki) and no one spoke English away from the Peace Park.

Perhaps you can message her and ask her about guiding you on your date?

You can find a list of free guides here if you want. But as said, you really don't need one. Miyajima is easy to walk around and the trains are not a problem either.

I agree that no guide is necessary, but if you really want one, you might consider some of the free guides Adastra mentioned. The Japanese National Tourism Organization coordinates free volunteer guides – “Goodwill guides” – who are generally knowledgeable and happy to guide you in return for practicing their English – which can be excellent, but it is a bit of a luck-of-the-draw.

You pay any entrance fees and his/her meal if your time with the guide includes one . Do NOT tip these guides, or anyone else in Japan.

There is a English guide offered at Daisyo-in temple in Miyajima.
If you google search daisyoinguide jimdo and ask them, they might offer you a tour. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion KJA regarding volunteer guides. They have been very helpful and we are now all set. Thanks fo most everyone for your help. Big Russ it was not necessary for your condescending report but again, everyone else makes this forum so helpful.
