General Tours or Pacific Delight

Could any provide comments re using General Tours or Pacific Delight Tours for touring through China? [ If you respond about Pacific Delight Tours, please indicate which level of tour you took, as it appears that they offer several price categories.] My focus is Yangtze tour, and plan to also see some other areas in China. I am used to independent travel in other countries ( I have never taken an organized tour), but am planning to take a tour for my first experience traveling in China travel, as am just not comfortable with handling arrangements/possible problems myself for a first trip. Any help in finding a reliable tour company would be greatly appreciated.

Recently booked a trip with General Tours for this fall. Also looked at several other companies. What I found in most cases is that many tours have long been sold out, especially trips with Yangtze River segments...each company only has so many spaces on the river boats. When are you planning to go? Also interested in any comments re:General Tours. Thank You

I've used Pacific Delight twice, an 8-day Beijing package and a year later, an 8-day Shanghai package. Both were fantastic, and I've booked an 8-day Bangkok tour this year with them. Haven't done the Yangtze tour, sorry I can't help there. I found PacDelight to be great, they deliver everything they promise and the tour guides I met in China were wonderful. Fluent in English, helpful, very friendly. The hotels they use are good, I bought the 1st Class (not Deluxe) packages and the hotels were modern, clean, and had all amenities. My only quibble is that because I travel alone, the single supplement charge can be pricey, so check that out before you book with them. Otherwise, I'd say definitely use Pacific Delight. They're very reliable (and I don't work for them, btw.) Enjoy China, it's an amazing country that I think of often. Would love to go back again.

My wife and I just returned from a 21 day Pacific Delight 21 day Classic Yangtze River Experience, Fully Escorted, Imperial Deluxe Tour, using the Victoria Cruise Line up stream.
This was an excellent trip, the hotels are the best I have ever stayed in, food was very good, although we got tired of Chineese food after a while. This tour had a few western dinners which were a welcome break. The guide we had for our time in main land China was excellent, the local guides were also excellent. We had no problems with transportation, everything was handled by our guide that met us at the airport in Beijing.
I highly recommend Pacific Delight, we had a great time.

Our family went to China this past summer and being a travel consultant I do almost too much researching before I take a trip. We had never taken a tour but decided to because with the tour we did not have to worry about the language barrier. The hotels were of excellent quality and the guides were excellent, all being from China. It was also great having them choose where we would eat. We did the Yangtze cruise-go downriver, it takes less time.
If you are interested in doing a Pacific Delight trip and want to know which tour to take I know quite well one of the tour guides who works for Pacific Delight. She goes to China 3-4 times a year for the last several years doing tours for Pacific Delight. They are a good company with good value for the dollar. www.gosmartravel.com
