Yes there's been some flooding, some schools closed and the rail line was closed, Phrae, Sukhothai and Uttaradit seem most affected but flights to CM etc operating as normal and have not heard of any major disruption, it depends where you are going and when (?)

I was planing on taking the train North up to CM next week, stopping in Sukhotai.
After CM I was going either to the Golden Triangle or Mae Hong Son.

After, the North I was flying down to Koh Samui,Tao for some beaches and diving.

If the floods were causing havoc in the North, I could adjust the schedule and head South first, and then North.

Any thoughts or suggestions on itinerary ?
thanks

Well if Sukhothai was on my plan unless it clears rapidly perhaps your best option would be to fly to Chiang Mai with one of the budget airlines, Nok Air, One-2-Go or Thai Air Asia and then check the situation once there, try Bangkokpost online for up to date, Far North seems ok it is more in the central region of the North and unfortunately Sukhothai where you were planning on.

Chiang Mai from what I have heard, read and on TV is ok, it's those other areas which have serious flooding and the rail line goes through those areas. If you go to Bangkok Post online they have an article and the map shows the affected areas.

I can confirm what James is saying. We have had some rain here in Chiang Mai in the last few day;, heavy but not prolonged, really nothing that should spoil your holiday.

I haven’t seen or heard of any flooding locally.

A friend was stranded on a train outside of Uttaradit for seven hours, a not particularly nice experience as she had to wade through 5 km of water carrying her daughter. My wife was due to travel from Bangkok on last evening’s train, but swapped to Air Asia.
