China Trip

Two well travelled couple, in their sixties, going to China end of Sept., beginning of Oct. 2001. Want to stay about three to four weeks. Which companies are good? May possibly want to travel just the four of us? How are companies like OAT or Grand Circle? Want to include one or two other countries. What do you recommend? Thanks

I took a China trip with China Focus (San Francisco) for only 9 days and it was terrific. They have very good guides and keep you very busy. Our tour only had 11 people and I'll bet they could customize for only 4. I highly recommend them - friends took the Yangtze + tour and had a great time.

My wife and I had a great trip to China in November 1997 with Grand Circle. We had a GCT guide with us at all times as well as a representative of the China Tourist Agency. We made stops at a half dozen or so locations and, in addition, spent 6-7 days on the Yangtze. The trip also included a few days in Hong Kong and Shanghai. If you're interested I'd be happy to send you a copy of my journal. Let me know via my e-mail addresss above. Happy travels!

Helen:
My husband and I spent two+ weeks in China in mid October.
We used China Travel Service (CTS) - San Francisco office.
We set our own itinerary and CTS made all of the arrangements for the two of us, including arrangements for guides and drivers in each city we visited. We found their services to be excellent.
Be mindful of early October travel in China. The first week of October is a national holiday and EVERYONE has off from work. Many Chinese travel during that time and visit the same places you will want to visit. We were there the second week of October and were told many times how lucky we were to have missed the crowds the week before.
Have a great trip, it is worth the effort!
I was in China in June with OAT. If you're familiar with their brochures, they pretty much tell all. We also had three days in Tibet and the Yangtze cruise. The best thing about OAT is the size of the group, never more than 16. Overall, I'd recommend them.

Hi Helen,
I'd like to recommend the CTS (China
Travel Services). You can actually
take a look at their website
(www.chinatravel1.com) which states
it's branches over the world and
offers useful information to most of
the scenic attractions all over the
country!

have a great trip!
