China and Hong Kong with 15 year old boy

Teenager accompanying parent on business trip to Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing next month. They will have 2 weeks to travel for pleasure. Any suggestions from families who have taken teens to Hong Kong and China? What were your teens' favorites places, experiences, restaurants, etc?

They plan to visit the popular tourist places in the above cities plus see the Great Wall and Terra cotta warriors.. With so much to do, they are trying to narrow their options. Thank you!

Thanks for the advice. The teen will like unscheduled time.

Quite likely teen will show signs of resentment towards parent for this required travel. Parent may think 'oh, such good history or geography for junior to see and experience' but junior wants none of it. Maybe teen only wants to be back home hanging with buddies, surfing internet, swimming and biking all day long. Bad, bad internet in China and no Facebook which may upset teen no end.

I think your teen may find Shanghai quite dull. Do you have time to travel in southern China? He would love Yangshuo and Guilin - kayaking on the river, hiking, rock climbing, cycling, mud caving. From Hong Kong, you can fly to Guilin, either direct from HKG or by crossing over the border into Shenzhen.
