as for the food in the legion kuta area ther are tons of budget places this is the backpacker area of bali... beers are chep about 10,000 rupih (SP)

and for the big question the touts.. they are the most in your face bunch I've came about any were i've been...
after 3 days of walking up the same streets 100 times a day they still would not let up "marijuan, taxi, young lady " so I decided too walk aournd with my headphones on I didn't cary a radio I just wanted them too think talking too me would be pointless.. it worked good enough .....

Ditto on www.balieats.com. One of the most comprehensive restaurant websites I've ever seen for a particular location.

I was just there through May 6, and I second the comment that good budget food is very easy to find. And there is plenty of good cold beer!

I didn't have any problem with touts in Legian, however (as opposed to Kuta). There were people clustered on the sidewalks saying "transport? transport?", but 90% of them didn't push after one "No, thank you", and the rest stopped after another, firmer, "No". We didn't have any problems with aggressive touts in Legian, and we were with a group of 18 people.

Have a great time! This was our second trip and we had a fabulous time.

Hi Trammie:

Just stay stay away from the 'resort' & 'McDonald' type locations (which are at 'western' prices) and everything will be good & inexpensive ...

FYI - at our resourt on Jambaran Bay a 12oz Bintang draft was 35,000 rupih (then about $3.25usd) but at the pubs on the beach at Nasa Dua a 22oz bottle of Bintang was 13,000 rupih (like getting 4 for the price of 1) ...
