I have flown Cathay Pacific from New York to Vancouver to HK. This was last May before all this crap going on now. Security was fine. The service on Cathay Pacific is really, really good. I don't pay attention to security. If your number is up it's up.

Shelley -
My husband and I are travelling to HK from Toronto in 10 days. My friend's husband is a pilot with Cathay, and assures that the flight will be wonderful. We are going via Anchorage to re-fuel. I don't want Sept 11th to make me fearful of travelling - life does have to continue.

Making my 4th transpacific flight to Asia with Cathay Pacific in a few weeks.
The NY-Hong Kong route...stops in Vancouver. A good many people fly only to Vancouver. Many East Coast Chinese fly to vancouver as it has the largest Chinese population in North America.

Most get off the plane in Vancouver, but the plane then refills with Hong Kong bound fliers.

According to Wednesday's South China Morning Post - Cathay Pacific is filling only about half the plane these days.

As for security, I am sure it is heightened in both New York's JFK and Toronto.

Michael From New York

Hi Avi -
My husband and I leave this Friday for Hong Kong via Anchorage to re-fuel. As far as I know, they do not pick up any passengers in Alaska and the stop-over is only 1 - 2 hours. We'll be on a new, airbus 340 with FOUR engines. I'm a bit anxious, but you have to keep on living!

Avi -
I forgot to tell you: I have a prescription for little pills to help me relax & sleep on the plane. I don't know the name but you put them under your tongue and they start working in about 20 mins and last 4 - 6 hours. 1 or 2 pills is enough for a nice snooze on the plane! Ask your DR. about this.
