Bhutan - trekking and festivals

Hello. Intrepid traveler here looking to go to Bhutan. I'd like to do some trekking, but also want to catch a festival, as I'm not sure when I will return and I hear that the festivals are spectacular. My questions:

1) has anyone done the combination of the 2, and if so, what guide/tour did you use?

2) is anyone else out there interested in such a trip for Fall 2008?

3) recommendations for specific treks and / or specific festivals.

thnx
Lisa

Have you done a search? There was a thread about Bhutan at the top today, as well as a number of very informative older threads.

Greetings Intrepid traveler,

I am traveling to Bhutan in October 2008. The trek is 21 days, this includes catching a couple of festivals prior to climatize.
I have looked into several companies and decided to go with Snow White tours. The website is..
www.snowwhitetours.com
Kencho Dorji is quick with responses to questions and extremely helpful.
Check out the website, see what you think. And then contact Kencho, she will forward all the information regarding the trek we have planned.

Paul, no advertising is allowed on the board - even when it is disguised to look like a recommendation from another traveler.

Kathie- No disguise, just some fellow trekkers that have done LOTS of homework on tailoring our own trek to make the most of a trip to Bhutan in 2008.

Paul, when a person's first and only post on Fodors is to recommend a company we are all suspicious. Fodors is so useful because it doesn't allow advertisng and the editors and posters are vigilant about this. Some other travel sites do not monitor this and as a result, many "recommendations" are suspect, making the whole site less helpful.

So, if you've planned a trip to Bhutan, I know I'd like to hear about it, and I expect others would, too. Tell us what you are planning to do there, when are you going, how long, where are you visiting, etc. There have been a few trip reports here on Bhutan, and a regular here on Fodors has just returned from Bhutan. Many of us are awaiting her report.

I'd love to hear what you have planned, and I hope you'll come back and report to us after your trip.
