Beijing Hotels
Looking for feedback on two Beijing hotels. The Shangri-La Hotel which is in the western part of the city (is this too far and inconvenient to stay at?) and the Palace Hotel. I've read that it is not necessary to stay right in the city center. Any first hand advice is appreciated.

We stayed at the Palace last year and were not too terribly impressed. The room was nice, but we expected that . The service wasn't all that great, but we expected it to be. We considered the Shangri-La for an upcoming trip that has now been postponed. It's out of the center loops, but it's near a subway stop that takes you directly into the center. Hope this helps.

I stayed at the China World Hotel (which is also a Shangri-La hotel located in Beijing). It had very nice rooms and decent service. Had a nice lounge on the main floor as well. Was nest to a shopping center and well-located. Check it out at:
http://www.shangri-la.com/eng/hotel/3/

I think I paid USD150 a night.

john

Hello,

I've stayed at several hotels (12+) in Beijing, including the Palace and China World. The Shangri-La is one of the first "western" hotels in Beijing, and basically is now a 3-4 star hotel. The Palace is quite good as is the China World. There are others that are also good, well located and inexpensive. Depends on what you are looking for.

Cheers,

Michael
