Beach near HCMC?
Hi Fodorites,
Asking for a little help here...
our family will be in HCMC for 2 nights (business for DH, vacation for myself and teenage daughter). After HCMC we'd like to take a few days to relax on a beach in Vietnam. We don't want to have to fly to said beach, we'd prefer it to be close enough to drive.
We've been to Koh Samui, Thailand and prefer sleepy little beach towns without a lot of action or toursits.
So, question is...can you suggest a beach town that is not built up/touristy that is near to HCMC?
We will have already spent time in BKK, then Vietnam, after Vietnam we fly to HKK, then onto Japan, spending about 3-4 weeks total traveling around Asia.
Thank you for your input.
Heather

The nearest beach to HCMC is indeed at Vung Tao. But it's not a nice beach. Next choice is Mui Ne. Much nicer beach and pretty sleepy area (outside of the town of Phan Thiet). Major drawback is it's a 4 hour drive or train ride. And that isn't because its far away. The drive is hectic. If it were me, I'd fly to Phu Quoc island instead. 45 minute flight, even better beach and very non-touristy (although not for much longer). R/T airfare is approx. $80USD.
