Bags are packed for Bangkok!
We leave for Ohare in the morning, flying to HKG on UA and then on to BKK on TG. Hoping DH and I have our upgrades cleared.....fingers crossed! It's a long haul in economy plus, although right now we each have a row of 3 seats. It looks good for us at this point for business class. DS will ride in his favorite exit row window seat in economy plus, with no one beside him right now. His fare is not upgradeable.
Reasons for the trip are birthday parties (2) and a publishing project! I'm also searching for a pretty pageant dress for a friend's daughter. I have complete measurements so hope I find the right size! The pageant is a local one, and is in June or July.
Feeling good right now. My doctor is OK with me skipping a chemo treatment. I am going to check out wigs in Bangkok...just in case. My hair is definitely thinning this time around. I may buy several wigs so I can fool my friends. I have another scan next month. Hoping for a good one.
We will eat at Indigo (a favorite that I keep on recommending here) our first night. The first of two birthday celebrations. This fabulous French restaurant is located in Silom, just off of soi Convent. Watch for pics on FB.
Looking forward to my return to Bangkok. Trip # 39 since 2001. The last trip was in Dec/Jan for the holidays. Staying only in BKK this time, since there is business involved. No Phuket...oh well... We hve our panorama suite with awesome huge terrace and fabulous view, at Column Ower, Sukhumvit soi 16. Again, pics on FB.

Have fun Carol. I guess it will be pretty hot.
No Bangkok for us again this year as we are heading off to South Korea again at the end of next week. Can't have everything I guess.
Hope your scans are good.

Make good use of the air conditioning, Carol!
I'm glad to hear that you are feeling well enough to take your trip to Bangkok. Enjoy our favorite city!
We likewise won't be in Bangkok this year, but will return in 2017 when we plan to take another Pandaw cruise in Burma.

Have fun. I already miss being in Bangkok and S.E.Asia in general and just got home in February. I'm counting down the days, until December, when I can fly over for another six weeks of fun and R&R. Smiles.
Happy Travels!

Good morning from Bangkok! Getting that "second wind" when you land can be a good thing......right? We landed 10:30ish and were in our hotel lobby by about midnight-12:30ish. Slight glitch in the plan. The panorama suite is occupied! No huge terrace this time... but we do have a nice large 2 bedroom apartment with a small balcony overlooking Asok and Terminal 21. There is some sort of "shoot" going on that requires the panorama. I don't know if that means a movie or just still photography... in any case, no panorama..... There is a small chance we will move to panorama when it is vacated. It's Bangkok, so we will make the best of it. I did not make the booking myself, on line, since there is no way to request that apartment, specifically. It was booked by a local friend. Not a big huge deal.
So about that second wind. DS and I unpacked quickly and went out the door headed to Sports Academy to catch up with friends. (DH stayed at the apartment) Another friend from home (our insurance agent) is coming over for DS's big 50th birthday party. His first trip to Bangkok! We managed to catch him as he was arriving at his Sukhumvit hotel. He had his second wind as well, so we headed to soi 7/1 to the Pickled Liver (favorite pub) for a cold beer. I was ready to hit the sack by about 4:30am. The others all went to a late night bar on the street on Sukhumvit for one more cold one and some people watching at 4:45am, and probably saw the sunrise!
I think I closed my eyes at about 5am....and reopened them at 7:15am... jet lag. Back to sleep until 10:00, when I think I will have coffee and pastry and greet the day! Lat and I will have lunch at terminal 21 with a Thai friend who moved to Dubai and is here for songkran, going back to Dubai tomorrow. She and her Finnish husband left Bangkok for Shanghai for his job, and moved from Shanghai to Dubai 2 years ago. Anxious to see how she is liking it there.
Tonight's birthday party will be at Monsoon on soi 8, and not at Indigo as had originally thought. Following that small dinner party we will go back to Pickled Liver for quiz night!
It's good to be back home in Bangkok!!!

Pong's birthday dinner was filled with good friends, good food and wine/beer, plus laughter...lots and lots of laughter! We ended up missing quiz night....
Today it is very hot so the pace is slow. Lazy morning then off to Terminal 21 for lunch. The plan is to go to Asiatique tonight.
The big birthday bash is tomorrow night at Tawandang. It's always an amazing time.

No Asiatique last night. Instead we went to the helix at Emquartier and ate Italian at Signor Sassi. We all enjoyed our food and would happily return. It is at the top of the helix, 9th floor, just as you step off the elevator.
Tonight is Tawandang for DS's big birthday party. Expecting 80 to 100 people to show up.

It just hit me that I think I've eaten at that restaurant as I just noticed that there's one in Paragon. The year that Paragon opened, I ate at an Italian restaurant on the left side of the corridor when walking north. It had just opened and Paragon wasn't even complete as I inhaled paint fumes the whole time in there. Then, a year or so later, I ate at the Italian restaurant down the same corridor, but on the right side. I wonder if one of those was Señor Sassi as I can't remember the name of either.

Fabulous party last night! We must have had 80 to 90 people there. Great food, great group of friends, and the entertainment was awesome. Our friend Poo was not singing last night, so we will miss seeing him. He may be doing a movie shoot or taking time away from singing. Who knows......
Everyone is being lazy today, although DS will play in a pool tournament and DH will becworking on his book project.
I saw lots of pageant dresses at Platinum yesterday. I just need Pong's help in getting just the right one.
