Would it make sense to spend 3 nights at Mae Hong Son rather than just 2? It would mean spending the first four nights (rather than five) in Bangkok. We also have two nights in Bangkok at the end of the trip. That way we'd have two full days (plus a half day) in MHS. Is there plenty to do there to keep us busy? And if we make this itinerary change, we'll be able to stay at Fern Resort rather than Golden Pai. Suggestions?

You should find more than enough to do in 2 1/2 days especially if you are interested in hill tribes, nature stuff etc. And the fern resort is really nice. I always hate to have anyone cut time in Bangkok but this may be one time it will be worth it -- as long as you're interested in what Mae Hong Son has to offer.

I really think you would enjoy those days at the Fern, see what there is to see and then I would just sit yourself down and just 'absorb' where you are, you know that well used expression "Take time to smell the roses" well I don't know about roses but you certainly will almost 'feel' yourself unwind!

Remember a trip may last a few weeks but memories last 'forever'.

I really support the idea of spending some days just to relax and listen to the silence, let yourself flow.

If you want to be active you will find enough but I would also relax, not often you will get the chance to be in such surrounds so 'do' take the time just to sit down, cool juice, and just absorb it all!

So you managed to get rooms at the Fern ?

I can get rooms at the Fern if I shift my itinerary so that I go there before Chiang Mai and then do CM afterwards! I'm having second thoughts, though, about spending three nights there. It means not only changing my hotel in CM and also my flight from CM to MHS, but also changing my flight from BKK and my hotel in BKK. So I think I'll just stick with 2 nights in MHS - but yes, assuming I can change Baan Orapin in CM, then I'll change my itinerary so that I can get Fern Resort!
