Airport pickup Bangkok..ACC Limosine?
ACC Limosine is highly recommended on this board for BKK airport transfers. I am not able to access their website( www.acclimosine.com) and my email to them was returned as "undeliverable." Does anyone know if they are still in businnes and ,if so, how to contact them? Any other suggestions for airport pickup? We don't want to use a taxi.

Is there aproblem with getting a taxi at the BKK airport? Are there advantages to using a limousine services over a taxi for transfer from BKK airport to hotel? We will be arriving from the US and this is our first time in SEAsia.

As for limo service, I just book a car upon arrival. When I get off the plane and enter the baggage claim section, there's a counter inside the baggage claim area. I think it's AOT. I go to it first, before looking for my luggage on the carousel. I tell the rep that I want the cheapest car and I usually know about how much that will cost. Then I go to the carousel and get my luggage.
After getting my luggage, I meet the rep who pushes the luggage cart out of baggage claim and to another counter where I pay. Then the driver comes and takes my luggage to the car. I have never pre-arranged a car upon arrival. With flight delays and all, I just get the car when I get there.
As for taxis, I used to take them from the old airport in Bangkok as well as limo service and hotel/apartment service. I haven't taken a taxi from the now airport, only limo service.
It wasn't difficult to take a taxi, just make sure the driver turns on the meter and make sure that you have some Thai baht to pay the two tolls on the toll road. Happy Travels!

Since it is your first trip to BKK, you might want to do the limo service. Guenmai makes it sound very easy and convenient. I just might try it.... (what do you usually pay, guenmai?)
Taxis are cheap and easy..... after you've done the arrival at least once. Just my opinion.

I had no trouble taking a taxi from the new airport - you do have to pay the airport tax plus the tolls on top of the meter. More likely to have problems going back - just be aware that you don't pay the airport tax in that direction, and insist on the meter.

There is no problem with taking a taxi from the airport, just make sure they use the meter.
We usually take AAC limo from the airport because we travel "heavy" and the sedans they use (typically Mercedes or BMW) hold more luggage than the tiny Toyota Corollas. I have, rarely, had the experience of a taxi driver not knowing where my hotel is. While I don't mind dealing with that while I'm in Bangkok, I don't want the hassle when I'm just off a transPacific flight and haven't slept in 24 or more hours. That never happens with AAC. Indeed, we've had the same driver from AAC every time for the past few years.
AOT is typically a couple hundred baht more than AAC. You get a 10% discount from AAC for booking your roundtrip transfers.
BTW, if you book roundtrip, you pay the full roundtrip fare to your driver when he initially delivers you to your hotel.

Simpson510: I just got out my journal where I write down every last expenditure when I'm vacationing overseas. So, I have written in my journal (November 2009 BKK trip), that the one-way 850Baht car (Dec 2007) has gone up to 950Baht (Nov 2009). Therefore I negotiated 1,650Baht for round- trip limo fare.
Sometimes I take the limo service to my serviced apartment building and then sometimes on the way back to the airport, I take a taxi. Of course the taxi driver always wants to give a flat rate back to the airport, but I never agree on it and have the staff, who's putting my luggage into the taxi, tell the driver to TURN ON THE METER. Sometimes, the driver still doesn't want to turn it on and then, while in the taxi, I tell the driver, in Thai, to turn it on or else we're not going anywhere. Then the meter is turned on. Thursdaysd: The tolls are paid on top of the metered fare and when the driver gets to the toll roads he asks for the money then. I have never experienced it added onto the total fare after one has arrived to the airport.
According to my 2007 journal, toll #1 was 40 baht and toll #2 was 20 baht and the fare from my serviced apartment building, attached to Emporium Mall on Sukhumvit soi 24, was 229 baht to the airport (with the meter on, of course). So the total, with the tolls, was
289 baht ($8.50 at that year's rate of exchange). It takes 35 minutes to get to the airport from my serviced apartment building.

Kathie: I assume you mean that you pay the full fare to your "AAC" driver when you get to your destination. With AOT, I paid the full fare at the counter. I have always had different drivers to and from my building. Before heading back to the airport, I either have the front desk call AOT or I call them and reconfirm my pick up back to the airport. I'm sure you remember, Guenmai, that at the old airport there were a number of limo counters. AAC had one of those counters, and likewise, you paid at the counter at the airport. At the new airport, AOT got a monopoly on limo services. Rebelling against the monopoly, I insist on using AAC. lol.

Kathie: Now that you've mentioned it, I do remember AAC and a lot of other companies at the old airport. I used to take a variety of companies then. But, on the very up side, the advantage of AOT being at the now airport is that when one lands and many times off of a very long, tiring flight, one doesn't get bombarded by the tons of transportation companies.
I remember my first time arriving into BKK, back in the 90s, and arriving from Chiangmai. I had flown non-stop from Singapore to Chiangmai and then days later to Bangkok. I had left Bangkok for the end of my 3-week, solo trip through Southeast Asia.
I got off the plane, at the old airport, and there were all of these transportation agents bombarding me. It took me quite a while to bargain with various ones to get the fare that I was willing to pay. Now, I don't deal with that as I just book the car in the baggage claim area and when I've gotten my luggage, into the car I go. I only bargain with AOT. Happy Travels!

For me a taxi into the city will usually cost under 500 baht, and that includes a tip. On the way back out, I have the doorman at my apartment arrange for a mini van for me, as I am usually travelling with 3 big bags plus purse and carry-on. Too much for the regular sized taxi. It costs me 600b for the mini van. I'm sure the doorman gets a 'tip' back from the mini van driver, but I have no problem with that. The staff at my apartment building are always helpful and hard working. I usually tip the mini van driver above and beyond the 600b price for the service.

it is cheapest to go by taxi if you only have a small amount of luggage and IF you are going to a well known hotel... many taxi drivers have no idea where some hotels are...
for a first timer a limo is the way to go... i have never been in one where the tolls were not included.. i find the drivers much more knowledgeable... if you pre-book and the hotel is unfamiliar to them they would have called ahead for directions for sure... AAC does not have the same privledges in the new airport... AOT has the run of the place..

If you think that the taxi driver might not know your hotel, you can always e-mail your hotel and have them e-mail you the name of it and the directions, in Thai. Then print it and take it with you. With taxi drivers one never knows.
My best Thai friend and I got into a taxi at my apartment building and needed to go to Oriental Place (shopping center) so that I could take my huge load of fabric to Cotton House where I have my clothes made. I told my friend to just tell the driver to drop us on the street that the Oriental Hotel is on. The Oriental Place is directly across from it. Well, the driver ended up taking us to the Royal Orchid Sheraton. We were NOT happy campers. We got out of the cab, schlepped the huge bags of fabric to the pier and took the boat to the Oriental Hotel pier and then walked over to Oriental Place. Happy Travels!
