GTG Boston-Cambridge (US) July 12

I decided to start my upcoming Europe trip with a stopover in Boston instead of New York or Washington (I should have looked at the prices for Boston hotels first!). Then it occurred to me that there were a number of Fodors' posters living in the Boston area, and it would be nice to meet up with some of them. After some discussion on the US board, we have settled on:

6:00 pm, July 12th, Summer Shack, Cambridge

If you're interested, please read and post here:

Wish we could be there, thursdays. But after the months Cheryl spent caring for her dying mother, we aren't going back that way for a while.

You should think about returning to Seattle to visit the Chihuly Museum!

@Kathie - can understand that! It has to be Europe this year because my niece is getting married in England, but maybe I'll head west next year - would really like to make it to Central Asia.

@rhkkmk - will be nice to finally meet you!

I'll ask Jeane - we would want to stay over (coming from CT) and Sunday nights are not the best...

Carole - so sorry about the chemo - I missed that... And thanks for the email. For others, from the linked post:

DonTopaz has also set up an email account. If you are planning to go, PLEASE send an email with the number of people to:

[email protected]

and he will make the reservation. In late June we will post reminder notices in the Fodors' forums, setting a date for last-chance reservations. Also, mail will go from the FodorsBostonGTG account to attendees (and anyone on the fence) with reminders/details.

Craig has suggested Marriott courtyard Waltham as a good hotel option

I have booked at the Marriott Courtyard Waltham and hopefully, others will do the same. It is important to book a refundable rate now because the hotels in the area are filling up and prices are rising accordingly. It never hurts to check back if the price has dropped, however...

Hey guys - this thread was supposed to just be a pointer to the main thread on the US board.

I posted this over there this morning:

Maybe I should have put Mini in the title. This was intended to be just dinner and drinks with a few people who lived in the area, for maybe three hours or so. We were thinking 6-8, maybe 10-12 tops. All we are planning to do is reserve tables at Summer Shack.

If people want to fly/bus in from elsewhere, and/or arrange other meet ups, that's fine, but all Don and I are "organizing" are the reservations at Summer Shack.

(Don is currently traveling, and it has dawned on me that I leave in less than two months for a 4-5 month trip that I am still planning, never mind booking...)

Not to worry there, thursdaysd. We've all done this before. Summer Shack will work with a small group or slightly larger. Don't panic. Boston is one of the most popular Fodors GTG destinations but we did not have one last year, in spite of a fairly long tradition. So kudos to you for inspiring an event. Anything beyond the dinner will be the responsibility of others and not your concern. Don has been involved before and has even arranged his own local meet up during an event, so perhaps he can give you some perspective. We will all step up to make it a great weekend. Just go with the flow - you will meet some of the friendliest and most well-travelled folks on the planet...

Count us in. Looking forward to seeing everyone in July. A mini GTG is better than none, so thanks for getting the ball rolling.
