I love this chain! I've been in them in Osaka, Tokyo and Nagoya. Usually they are in the downtown area. Maybe you can ask at your hotel??
There are similar stores in Honolulu..the Marukai 99 cent stores and the $1 sections of Daiei.

After 3 years living in Tokyo, this was the place my kids wanted to visit on a recent return trip!!!
The 100 Yen Shop can be permanent or temporary. There was one shop in Azabu Juban Tokyo that had the 100 yen shop when it was "in". It would come and stay for 10 days, then it would be a sock store for 10 days, etc. Some are more permanent.
Look for a bright orange banner with 100 on it. Ask the expats, put up a sign at the YCAC or in one of the free English magazines.

Hi, there are at least two 100yen shop chains, Daiso (probably the biggest) and Can-Do and their shops are usually permanent.
I made a quick Qoogle-Japan search. Daiso has more than 2000 shops in Japan including about 20 of them in Yokohama. I'm sure your hotel reception can help you locating the ones near by. Where will you be staying?
There is eg, one next to Mitsukoshi Dept.Store on the basement level.
Remember the Japanese word "hyaku-en shopu". That might be helpuful.

There is a huge 100 yen shop in Yokohama near Kannai station, in the Isezaki-cho area. Isezaki is a pedestrian street with lots of shopping including department stores, book store w/English books (Yurindo), Laox (duty-free electronics), Uniqlo (poor man's Gap). I love it there! The 100 yen shop is located above Laox and Uniqlo on the 4th-6th floor. It is one of the biggest and best in Yokohama. You can easily walk from Kannai, just head to Isezaki and look for the blue and orange Laox sign. Otherwise you should be able to get directions to Laox from your hotel or someone in the area. Enjoy!!!

The One hundred Yen Store I use in Tokyo is located in Shibuya. It is very near The Hachiko Meeting Place. Go up the street in the direction of the 109 Building and look for the Bookstore, on the same side of the street you will see the tall building of the One Hundred Yen Store.

thank you for your many replies. I believe I will be staying at the Yokohama Prince. Is this a nice hotel? I will make sure to ask at the hotel desk for the location of best 100 yen store. Any other suggestions for inexpensive shopping for souveniers and gifts to bring back home?

You will like the 100 Yen store and should be able to pick up quite a few inexpensive things to bring home from there. For other inexpensive souveniers, visit the stationary sections of department stores or bookstores. There are lots of cute stationary-type ideas and little gifts. There should also be a sort of "gifts area" in department stores as well. Have fun!
