Woo Hoo!!! USAir bringing back preferred bonus miles and 500 mile segments

M husband just received the following e-mail:

Effective today, we're bringing back your 75% Preferred bonus miles and will retroactively credit your account for qualifying flights between August 6 - November 19, 2008. We're also restoring the 500 mile segment minimum for Preferred members, including retroactive bonuses for all qualifying flights from May 1 - November 19, 2008

Ah, the market speaks.

I've wondered about the long-term health of this airline.

They're getting smart(er). They actually have a marketing director to register on Flyertalk as "DMInsider" to announce it there yesterday.

rkkwan - I just went over there to read about this. I haven't checked FlyerTalk for a while b/c I'm not redeeming any award travel.

I did write to USAir on behalf of my husband about the mileage changes, and I know everyone over there did, too.

rick-c, I can't tell you how many times people have claimed USAir is going out of business. I'm not saying they're healthy, but they've survived when many, many people didn't think they would.

Well, they've survived 2 bankruptcies, at least.

It will be interesting. My own opinion is that with Delta/NW combining now, there will be pressure on the remaining legacies to also consolidate or die, and I think that this airline won't be one of the ones remaining standing.

The old USAirways with the vast network in the east was bought out by America West.

But I guess that's one form of "survival".
