OW tickets

OW tickets
Can I do this? Can I book a 2 one-way tickets for us to a city and then book 2 more one-way tickets back to my home city? A third person will only need a one-way ticket, and that shouldn't be a problem.
It's much cheaper right now for me to do that - book 2 separate one-way tickets vs. booking a round trip ticket.
Just never heard of this being done before.

My experience is that one-way tickets cost far more than half the cost of a round-trip ticket, so I'd suggest you make certain of the prices before buying.
I know many round trip tickets have a time limit, so people who are staying somewhere for quite a while have to buy one way tickets (students have this problem, for example, and there are some services that make arrangements for them, as buying the one way tickets on your own is almost always quite expensive}.
So yes, I think it can be done, but I think few of us can afford to do it.
I seem to recall that having a one-way ticket is one of the triggers that prompts TSA to look at you more closely, so allow extra time at security and wear clean underwear.

I bought a one-way ticket, but it was within the US. Southwest airlines did't even asked me why one way. Nobody was amused 
(I took the Amtrak train back)
There are several domestic airlines who don't penalize you for a one-way: they charge 1/2 price. Southwest is one of them, even the website is designed so you pick one ticket, then the return one.
Is this for a domestic or an international flight?

Faina, if you haven't seen southwest's new site -- it is now very easy to indicate that you want one way ticket.
On the home page, you click:
BOOK A FLIGHT
The very first thing it now asks you:
round trip or one way. Once you mark the correct "circle"
it looks for you to simply put in the info for the one flight.

It is common for international LCC (Ryanair, Jetstar, Air Asia etc.) to have only OW flights.
I bought a OW flight with Aer Lingus Dublin-NYC last year very reasonably.
In Australia, all domestic flights are sold as OW tickets.
