Flights from SJC or SAN to OGG (Maui)
I'm planning to fly from the San Francisco area to Maui in early February. Alaska has prices under $400, and Hawaiian has prices for around $425. I wanted miles with United/Continental so I would be Silver Elite again but United wants over $500, and their direct service on a Boeing 777 is about the same price. ($777)
Any reason why United is charging so much more than the competition? Hawaiian is winning the awards on those flights with a free meal while United and Alaska sell sandwiches, correct?

Hawaiian Air is fabulous. Yes they have free and decent food service, like the old days. Their inflight entertainment is excellent. You get the feeling of 'aloha' the moment you step on the plane.
Sorry I know that doesn't exactly answer your question -lol!

Thanks for the responses. I booked a ticket for my girl friend in Milwaukee and she has four flights: Milwaukee to Minneapolis, to San Diego, to LAX, to Maui. I had to buy her two one-way flight tickets since Delta was cheaper going out and United was cheaper returning. I wanted to book the ticket directly with the airline--not Orbitz, Expedia, or Travelocity. In early February there can be bad weather in Wisconsin--so I've been told here in Florida. I'll wait another month to book. I'm now retired!!!!! Not bad for 54.

Flights to SFO and LAX are up, unless the flight is from another airport in California. I thought Delta and Continental had direct flights from Atlanta and Houston, but everyone seems to be going out of California now.

I forgot to add that many schools in Northern California get a one week "ski break" around President's weekend. (They have the holiday and then teacher work days all at once.)
Lots of families travel to Hawaii during this time, that may be why you are finding higher prices.
