Documents for E-tickets?

In my upcoming trip I will fly to and from Asia on award tickets (KE outbound, JAL inbound). Within Asia I have two flights on CX (Avios award tickets). I also have paid tickets on Air Asia between Thailand and Cambodia.

Now that tickets are all E-tickets, what documentation do you recommend carrying regarding your reservations? I routinely print out my confirmation with record locator, and carry a paper file. Do I need to print any of the other emails I have received from the airlines?

And if KE wants me to demonstrate an onward ticket from Thailand within 30 days of landing before allowing me to board at JFK, will a printout of my Air Asia confirmation 22 days after landing suffice? (It seems like it should, but --in theory -- what would prevent me from booking an refundable flight, printing out the conformation/record locator, and then cancelling the flight? Not that I plan to do that, but it who knows what they will accept as "proof" of not overstaying a visa?)

I apologize for the basic questions, but the worst case scenario of the possibility of KE balking at JFK if I could not prove an onward flight from Thailand within 30 days made me want to confirm logistics.

Thanks.

No, you DO NOT need to print out all your emails/correspondence regarding your E-tickets.

All you need to carry is a printed copy of your E-Ticket/Itinerary and even then that's not "mandatory" and the chances are small that anyone will ask to see it.

in fact, i never carry a printed copy but do keep an electronic version that I can access on my smartphone and/or laptop. For what it is worth ,I've been flying both domestically and internationally multiple times a year and can't remember the last time anyone ever asked to see my E-ticket. In most instances I check-in and print out my boarding passes online and don't have to stop at the ticket counter unless I have luggage to check.

In those instances when I can't check-in on line I just show the Ticket Agent my I.D. (usually my Passport for international flights or D.L. for domestic flights) and they enter that into their computer and VOILA, they print out my boarding pass.

In 25+ years of travel no one has ever asked me to produce a copy of an onward ticket.

Same.
I never carry anything.
They find my reservation via my ID card.

Give a thought to your paperwork after you have taken the flights, too. I always keep boarding passes, however printed, in case of lost luggage and frequent-flyer point disputes. The paper goes to recycling only after I see the points registered in my account. A few years ago Delta refused to grant points for a flight on a partner airline even though I had the boarding pass. Delta wanted to see a separate receipt too. I'd printed it out at home but discarded it before I saw the lack of points on my account. Never again.

Boarding passes can be saved as photos on most smartphones. Or email them to yourself.

I download my boarding passes to my passbook app when I do online check-in, use them to check in and they stay there forever. Or if that is not possible. I request the BP as a PDF.
I do keep an electronic copy of my itinerary, if only to have the details to hand esp departure times as I can't memorise every flight I need to take.

It's a good idea to have a copy of your itinerary on paper in the event of unusual events such as needing to show an onward itinerary to government or airline officials. Some airports won't let you into the terminal without seeing "proof" of being on a flight (although as a USAn the cover of my passport once sufficed). Probably other things, too. Same thing for travel or other insurance, where providers may need to make a physical copy. Always better to be prepared for almost anything.

Sitting in the KAL lounge at JKF, and just got a lot of hassle from the receptionist because I do not have an onward plane ticket to Seim Reap -- just hotel reservations. I said I was to going to Cambodia by land, which caused consternation because I could not produce a ticket.

I thought I was going to have to make a quick decision about buying an Air Asia ticket then and there but her manager eventually said that my detailed printed itinerary showing hotels is OK.

I am now sitting here wondering if I will always need to plan travel so that I can prove that I am exiting a country in the allowed time....
