What can you all tell me about the Caprivi Strip in Namibia?

This is the area that borders Botswana, Zimbabwe & Zambia. I am mostly interested because of its proximity to Mutemwa, a very interesting lodge in Western Zambia that offers mobile camping safaris in Liuwa Plains, Sioma Ngwezi and daytrips to Ngonye Falls, a supposedly beautiful set of waterfalls.

Are there any lodges/camps worth visiting in the Caprivi Strip? I have heard that this area is very unlike the rest of Namibia and is very tropical.

They have two lodges. Impalila on an island in the Zambezi. All activities are done by boat. Great fishing and birding around the lodge. Great game viewing by boat on the Chobe river. Great views of the river from camp and superb food. Sister lodge Susuwe is on the Kwando river with large Bungalows with individual pools. Great birding on the river and good game viewing. Not huge numbers of game but great diversity incl some very good Leopard in the area. In the dry season the elephant viewing is unbeliavable. The last 50 yds to the lodge is done by boat going by a large colony of Carmine and Whitefronted Beeeaters.
Just as Impalila the food is superb.
From Susuwe it is possible to do a transfer by vehicl/boat to Kwando Lagoon Camp.

Hi
We'll be staying at Impalila Island lodge for 4 nights in late May, with a day trip to Vic falls. Will gladly report back on our return!

mv,

I do like the fact that a boat transfer to Kwando Lagoon is possible from the Caprivi Strip. When I do hit Botswana, Kwando is definitely atop my list.

Thanks for the feedback.
