US - one of the biggest ivory markets

Problem is evident when all the adds on the National Geographic page are for Ivory trade!
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service does a great job, in 2006 they inspected over 183,000 incoming shipments and conducted an additional 15,000 investigations for violations of Endangered species and other wildlife protection acts. But when there is money to be made and demand for illegal activities you can't stop it all, hopefully with education demand will decrease because enforcement will never catch it all.

Pippa: yes, scroll the page down below the article and on the right they have the Sponsored Ads and all 3 showing are for Ivory buying & selling.
It's just bad luck for National G as they are Google Ads which must find the relevant topic and attempt to place related ads, ironically what pops up is what your organization probably does not want there. I believe hunting ads pop up on National G's webcam frequently as well.

It must be different for everyone and perhaps you Europeans are not targeted like the #2 USA Ivory market because all 3 times I have opened the article I have the same ads which I am pasting below.

I also got the same ads as PB. I am sure that National Geographic was unaware that such ads were running with this article. They are surely automatically generated by the content, by some source outside of NG (I'm sure many of you understand how Internet ads work much better than I do, because I know nothing about this sort of thing).
Anyhow, I messaged National Geographic about the ads and got a personal reply, saying my email had been forwarded to the reporter. I think the reporter, Kelly Hearn, would be dismayed in knowing that such ads appeared alongside the story, but I think he or she would want to know.
