prescriptions
just curious i have various medications for back pain - though not always necessary i hestitate to travel the world without them - so two questions (actually three)
can i bring them? what precautions should i take?
with my back issues in mind (and mild to irritatingly annoying claustrophobia) you think i could handle going into the pyramids? i think ive already decided to try - and come back if i cant handle it. but input may put my mind at ease!

I do not see why you cannot bring your pain medication...if they are prescription ,that is okay... if they are
over the
counter medication, then I do not see any problem with those also.
It is hot ( and stuffy )inside the Pyramids and also claustrophobic...the passage way is narrow and you will have to crouch a bit as you walk.....but try it....if you cannot handle it,then turn around and go back out.

I would not expect you to face any trouble but I would advise you to take the prescription with you. Just in case.
Regarding you claustrophobic - I would try and maybe when you are really fascinated by what you see/experience you might even forget about it.
happy travels!

If scripted meds, which I'd assume for the back are, then be sure they're in the original bottle with label.
There's a thread on this forum specifically about going into the pyramids, what it's like, closeness, heat and being bent over. Scroll down here or do a search to locate the experience those who did had and why others didn't.

There's really nothing to see inside the pyramids. I did it just for the sake of saying I did it, but it will be no loss if you don't. I can't imagine how a clausterphobic person with back problems would enjoy that experience.

I agree with P_M, going inside is no big deal....but ,sometimes we have to do things just to say we have done them.
Give it a try, you can make up your mind at the entrance !

From a claustrophobics point of view, if you are going through a narrow, low passage make sure no one is following you … I find that if I know I can get out I am ok but if someone is behind me I begin to feel trapped. In fact, just thinking about it is making me break out into a cold sweat!

As for the pain meds, by all means BRING THEM as you can't get really good pain meds that are much stronger than Ibuprofin here without a prescription and even with one, you may have some problems finding exactly what you want.
I get the Canadian 222's brought into me on occasion (they have codine in them) and there has never been any problem with Egypt and those.
If you do need something that's not too bad, there is a powder med here that mixes with water called Catafast 50 mg by Novartis. It says it is an Analgesic, anti-inflammatory. Percy is the doc here - maybe he can tell you if that is good enough in an emergency. It seems to help with my knees and hips.

Not sure what your medication is.
I am guessing that if it is over the counter then it might be Ibuprofen or Advil( same drug).
Debbie:
The 222's from Canada are over the counter medication in Canada but I do not think they are over the counter in the USA.
The 222's contain:
325 mgm of Asprin, 8 mgm of Codeine, and 15 mgm of Caffeine.
Tylenol #1 ,which again is not over the counter in the USA
differs fom the 222, only in that in place of Asprin, it contains 325 mgm of Acetominophen.
The powder medication that you mention called Catafast 50 mgm. , is available in tablet form in the USA and Canada under the Trade name of Voltaren.
The generic name ...if you are asking for it in Cairo , is
Dicolfenac.
The Pharmacist in Cairo will know the name Diclofenac but not the name Voltaren.
Now about Ibuprofen...all the over the counter medication is the 200 mgm pill.
It also comes in a 300 mgm and 400 mgm pill BUT you need a prescription for this....however,
just take TWO ,200 mgm pills of the Ibuprofen, up to 3 times a day for muscle and joint aches ,and you do not need a prescription.
This is for short term use , in case you twist your ankle or develope a sore back on holidays

i heard that, when going into the pyramids its often croweded, people in front and behind and sometimes people trying to get back out...in that case i know i would have a panic attack! but if there arent alot of people i will surely give it a try.

... anything with a hint of codeine has to be scripted in the States. I've always gotten low-dose codeine items, 7mg-10mg, from overseas (various countries or thru friends) where they all seem to be available OTC.
All so strange, where acetomen and ibuprof products in mg doses way higher than Percy indicates are sold OTC in the States.
curiouser and curiouser!
