Post cards
Leaving for Egypt next week. Curiuous as to the cost, to send a post card from Egypt to the US and if you have to go to a post office to get stamps. Can post cards be mailed from hotels? Also, does anyone know how long it takes for a card to get to the US. On some trips I have been on, I would have been better off mailing cards from the airport when I arriaved back in the states.

ranger - Yup, you've got it right... mail the cards when you arrive home. Have postcard priced US stamps and drop in the box at your entry airport. The recipient probably won't notice the stamp, but that you thought enough to send the card. As from your previous experieince, you'll be home way before your postcards if you mail from Egypt.

Sandi,
Thanks, I think I will get US stamps before I leave. Still wondering what the cost is for postage from Egypt to US. I have a few friends that like to see the foreign postmark. When I was in Peru last year it cost about $1.20 or so for postage to the US.
Anyone know what postage will cost?

Hello,
I have to agree with Pumbavu and Heymo -- half the fun of receiving a postcard from somewhere abroad is in the knowledge that it actually came from abroad! Admittedly things can be a bit slow...a postcard I sent to my colleagues at the hospital when I was at Mombo (July 2) arrived on September 13, but it was still appreciated.
Postage from Egypt is very cheap -- something like one Egyptian pound (about 10 British pence or 18 cents US). Most shops that sell postcards will also sell stamps (but don't let them pull a fast one -- some places will try to charge more than the face value, although this is illegal!). Many hotels will also post things for you.
Cheers,
Julian
