Morocco - weather gear now and any last minute tips
Heading out in two weeks... too late to worry over the itinerary. Got some things booked, winging it in some areas. Not using a tour guide, except ad-hoc inside a medina or two for a day.
Just wondering if anyone had any last minute wisdom for a pair of first-timers.
Also, probably more importantly, what to expect in the way of weather? This country sure has a lot of variations from what little we can see on weather.com. And temps sometimes don't tell you everything. We travel very light, but is there any sort of weather gear we shouldn't leave at home?
Over 3 weeks, we'll be in Essaouira, Marrakech, Skoura (area), Merzouga for a dune overnight, Fes and Chefchouen.
Appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks for the good wishes laartista! We're looking forward to it. Been to some "challenging" places the last couple of trips (well, to us), yet this one seems like yet another brave new world. Can't wait.
welltraveledbrit, wow, it looks like we probably will. I still remember reading your trip report from Iran. One of the coolest trips I've ever read about on Fodors. I hope you post one up here on Morocco. Between you and laartista's great report, I think you'd put my notes to shame.
Have a wonderful trip. Watch for us... we'll be the ones looking lost in the souks.

To my fellow fodorites, Clifton and Welltraveledbrit, my husband and I leave for Morocco on April 6: Casa to Fez to the desert to Marrakesh then back to NYC.
Maybe I will see you there!! Please look for me - I will be the one with
a look of wonder on my face.

Thanks for all the well wishes and happy voyages to everyone who'll be sharing the road with us!
(and still, if anyone does know whether I'd miss having a wooly jumper for the dunes before I decide to be chuck it out of the backpack for space, let me know!)

The temperature drops at night in the desert so you might miss your "wooly jumper." I was in the desert in September and it was hot during the day but most people wore a sweater, or sweatshirt, at night and in the early morning.
The packing list sent by the company I toured with suggests a light rain jacket with hood sized to fit over your sweater or Polartec jacket (fleece).
You could always bring an old sweater and give it away if you don't need it. There will plenty of people there who could use it.
Have a great time.
