Leaving for Kenya dec 28th
So my wife and I are headed off to kenya in a few short days and are pretty excited to say the least. Our plan is as follows.
Jan. 2 – Jan. 4 Masai Mara – Salas Camp on the Sand River (specialized safari’s) --
Jan. 5 – Nairobi (to visit friends)
Jan. 6 – Serena Lodge, Amboseli National Park
Jan. 7 – Serena Lodge, Kiliguni, Tsavo National Park
Jan. 8-12 – Kilifi, North Coast Kenya
We can't change the plans any but I wanted to know if anyone has any advise, suggestion or comments that may help us on our trip.

Hi drdrake - Karibu (welcome)
well, you've taken away our joy of Dissecting, Analyzing, Suggesting, Arguing (and Indoctrinating) your Itinerary...
But we would love to hear about your experience.especially Salas Camp on the Sand River (specialized safari’s) i believe we have no report on this one... & Kilifi ...
& please stay awake all night to tell me who came to the water hole in (my beloved) Kilaguni. Especialli itf the Striped Hyena & Civet showed up.
What can we offer you ?
ask !! focus us...
If you are renting a car for example, i wouldn't let you rest for a minute..
Anyhow, generally speaking :
from Kilifi i suggest you visit Gede Ruins - beautiful example of a (coastal) Rain-forest taking over an ancient city. That's (from my experience) the best place to see the Elephant-Shrews & search for Trogons etc' {we love even non-feline critters ...)
Close bye you can walk within the coastal forest, down to the Mangroves (i love this habitat)
You would probably visit Mombasa & maybe Malindi (early morning in the fish market is a real museum tour)
Tamarind (seafood) Restaurant & maybe sailing its dhow while dining...
Tour South Coast, maybe even Shimba Hills (walk by foot to Shedrick Falls)
...
Watersports...dive? snorkel ?
Consider a night (+ flight) in Lamu
Enjoy it
aby

thank you aby, We actually wanted to stay Mombasa or Malindi when at the coast but couldn't find a house that suited our needs.
I guess on the front end of the trip we are spending 3 days in Nairobi with some family I'm not sure what they have planned for us. We originally were going to do New years at the Tamarad(sp) near Mombasa but figured the extra we would spend in travel back and forth would be too expensive. While there we will be driving with my aunt and uncle so we will be doing plenty of driving.
I will be sure to give my report on the camps and all.
Well I had better sign off for the night as I have plenty of packing to do and we leave on Thursday.

So I have been back in Minnesota for a week am just getting back to normal sleep patterns.
As promised I will give my report on Salas Camp run by specialized safari's.
The camp sits right on the Sand River and has a fantastic view of Tanzania. The river was very high while were were there because of all the rain. That rain did cause some minimal problems getting to and from the camp as the mudd is like a sponge. In three days we got stuck in/out of camp 3 or 4 times each time the second Land Cruiser came around to winch us out with two of the times being a little more complicated as we were up to our axels in mud. We didn't loose much time and the got back to things quickly.
The camp has fantastic tents with probably the most comfortable beds I slept in, in africa. Each tent had real toilettes and had hot showers each night or morning. The greatest thing about this camp was the food!!! Both lunch and dinner were gormet quality meals absolutely unbelievable. My aunt and uncle that have been to the mara 4 other times agreed it was the best place they have ever stayed. Try this place out!!!
