Four Seasons Marrakech? Thoughts?

I agree that the Mamounia would be the place. I'm sure the Four Seasons is fine but why not treat yourself to some historic elegance while you're at it. I confess it isn't within my budget to stay there but I had lunch and wandered in the gardens and it would be my first choice.

>>At lot of the trip advisor reviews of Mamounia are lackluster.<<
Not sure what you are looking at - certainly not a 'lot'. 8% are poor/terrible -- 85% are Excellent/Very Good. And most of the 'Terrible' reviews are by people who didn't book there but are upset they could not visit the restaurant or day spa or ignored the dress codes.

I didn't check the reviews but what janis says doesn't surprise me. They literally have guards, doormen, at the entrance to keep tourists out as much as to open the doors for guests. Not sure why they let me in but while there it was clear to me that it's meant to maintain an atmosphere of calm & elegance and it does. There are a number of posh hotels in the world but very few with the reputation and history of the Mamounia. Since you hesitate it's possible that aspect isn't important to you but beyond the ambiance inside there are the gardens, reason enough in my estimation. But you should stay where you feel you'll be most comfortable, obviously.

FS says it's a "family hotel". Please, spare me all family hotels. The Mamounia is the grands dame of decorum and luxe. Any friends familiar with Marrakesh will be impressed that you stayed there. But, to each his own.
