Delta Flight To Dubai

Just wondering if anybody has done the Delta flight from Atlanta to Dubai. I have booked my economy ticket already and was just wondering how the service and seats were. Any info is appreciated.

Delta is the single worst airline that i have ever been on! I wouldn't go on any long haul flights with them ....

I just did the JFK-Dubai flight on Emirates last month ...... very good!

I know Emirates departs JFK, great plane and service. And, I know Emirates is expanding their departure points in the States, but not sure if ATL is one of them.

Check with Delta if they're not a code-share with Emirates and might be using Emirates metal (their plane). If so, then flight and service will be provided by Emirates.

I believe Emirates have a tie up with Continental. Anyone signing up for the skywards program can benefit miles from internal USA flights on continental also ....

Various points in North America ... yes, they soon will fly to Houston and Toronto from Dubai. That's what i was reading on their website the other day....

This was the flt we were booked on until I had to cancel our trip to Africa. The equipment is a Delta 777 which is nice in Biz class but coach on Delta is terrible.

Btw, don't know if anyone cares .... but, Emirates is using the 777 for their direct non-stop service from JFK to Dubai. The much better aircraft the airbus A340-500 is now being used on their JFK-Hamburg-Dubai service. They used the A340's until now to capture the market for the JFK route and now gone back to not as good aircrafts ..........

Don't know about anyone else, but you can keep the Airbus, any model. They're really a piece of tin, where I always feel the darn thing will fall apart, especially so during take-off and landing; seats are a bit smaller and less leg room under seat. Even the armrests have rough edges.

Emirates used a 777 from JFK/DXB in May and continues to. While every seat was taken on both flights, the interiors are lovely with soft/warm colors (no blue to be found... thank goodness) as was food service. And, there's plenty of entertainment for those interested.

Our flights to/from DXB/NBO, an Airbus, was shakin 'n ratlin for 5/hrs.

Give me Boeing anyday!

Sandi,

That's probably the old beat up A330's flying between DBX and Nairobi. The A340-500 is Amazing!!! I did the 777 last month ......

Just flew Delta to Johannesburg and back. NIGHTMARE. The plane actually broke down on the runway in Senegal. We were left to fend for ourselves for two days and we are still fighting with Delta to get our money back for hotel rooms and taxis. Flight attendants made off-color remarks about passengers , no duty free, movie was broken and the food was inedible. NEVER AGAIN.

Delta stands for "Don't even leave the airport."
Stranded in Jo'Berg for 3 days. No reimbursement for hotel, hotel transfers, meals and lost wages/business. The most unscrupulous, unethical airline/business I can think of. Avoid at all costs. Pay more for peace of mind.

I've been considering using our Delta FF miles to fly to Joburg (we have enough for 2 free flights), but with these 2 very negative Africa-related Delta reviews, I'm definitely thinking of taking South African Airways instead. At least I know they're up to handling an 18-hr. flight.

Obrienator--what happened in Joburg?

Gritty,

Please send me an off forum e-mail, I will send you a copy of the letter I sent to Delta fpr your own personal review. I am still speaking with the executive assistant to Delta CEO Harrison "Chuck" Conley about resolution to the reimbursement and other related issues. Our experience was unimaginable. We will have to take more aggrssive action in the future for reimbursement which is why I am not yet comfortable posting it on a public forum. SAA a much better direction.

Coach is coach, and in general I don't find coach on one airline to be better than the other. Anyone can have a great experience or a horrible experience on any airline (yes, even on SQ or EK) depending on the luck of the draw with the rest having a mediocre experience. The good thing is that the 777 has in seat video in economy which will help pass the time. Try to survive your flight!

bottom line...stay away from US airlines for anything overseas (unfortunately we have no choices save Virgin America in the continental US). US airlines have no idea what service is. Having flown a host of Asian and European airlines there is no comparison. If you must, use your Skyteam miles on a foreign airline.

newerworld,

I agree ..... when i visited the US this past summer on a work related trip, i found the airlines (delta and continental) at their worst. Awful delays, rude and abnoxious staff(worse than anywhere else), missed bags, clueless/uneducated security people at the airports who can easily make a visitor feel like they aren't welcome ...... AWFUL!!!!

What i plan to do on a next visit is to drive any place i can inside 6 hours.

As a Delta empoyee I would say the service is usually very good (of coarse it depends on who is working). The 777 is great in business class. If you are in coach I suggest you ask for the seats taht are in AB otherwise you will be in a row of 5 across
